Recently purchased a tikka t3x 300 win mag. Just wondering what everyone has tried and liked for moose. Anywhere from 100 - 500 yard shots. Any other advise on accessories, scopes, limb savers is greatly appreciated.

T3x is pretty light rifle, so I, would look into a limb saver for sure. It will make the shooting experience more fun. Buddy of mine has Browning Medallion 300 wm and the recoil is manageable but definitely limb saver improved the shooting experience. He got his from Amazon, a bit more fancy leather recoil pad.

As far as the other questions…my suggestion would be to stay away from the cheap optics for your 300, as it packs a solid recoil, you want the scope to be able to take the recoil.

Ammo, is rifle specific…one rifle will like this and other rifle will not but hopefully folks who shoot 300s will point you in the right direction.

Cheers,

I have the T3X super lite in 300 WM, recoil is not bad as some would think, limbsavers are great, butler creek, sling, spare 4 shot mag,...recommend Leupold Optics VX3 HD 4.5 x 14 with CDS and get the free ranging dial. I have tried many different ammo brands,...negligible difference in grouping. I use the cheap federal blue box 180s or the Hornady Whitetail ammo, moose go down no problem. Whatever you do don't cheap out on a scope,....expect to pay around a $1000 and up. Use a good quality one piece scope mount, stay away from rails. JMHO

I shoot 180g Remington corelokt out of my Tikka T3 .300winmag.

Shoots under MOA and I think Corelokt bullet is the best bang for the buck.

I've shot two adult moose, 5 bears and 2 deer with it. Performed as should.

Factory ammo is a crap shoot, different barrels like what they like. My Tikka 300 Win will shoot just about anything though. If you have a bullet preference for yur use start there and see what you get.. if you want a 500 yard rifle shoot it at that distance. Testing at 100 yards doesn’t mean ####, factory ammo has an annoynng habit of falling apart after 300 or so.

As for scopes, I’m an Leupold fan, and if you stay in the 3 series somewhere you’re styling. Bear in mind that in our group many f they guys can’t ssy zero to 500 witbout a sneer or bored sigh.

I’ve been using a Tikka T3X Hunter in 300WM as my moose gun for a few years now. I’ve loved the Barnes VOR-TX TTSX - Tipped Triple Shock 180gr- though they’re expensive, they have performed consistently on the last 4 bulls since switching from my 308 Win rifle.

I run a Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x Firedot and love it.

My son's composite stainless Tikka and my Cooper both love the Barnes VOR-TX TTSX boattail. Great consistent grouping. Several bull moose anywhere from 23 yards to 325 yards. DRT - Dead Right There.
