Hey all,

I finally got all my components to build my El Cheapo, but I find myself stuck. I got the 1/8" stereo plug instead of the 1/8" mono plug, and I'm not sure if it will work. There appear to be three possible terminals on the plug and the power horn only has two wires that need to be soldered to it. Can anyone help me out and advise me on which wire to solder where?

I have included a picture knowing that I'd likely not explain it well....

Thank you.

You need to wire the ground(-)(the section of the tip that is closest to the base) and the signal(+)(the very end of the tip) and it should work fine. Worst case scenario is it takes you a couple tries to figure out which tab is which.

Thank you for your response, but I am afraid I do not know which terminal you are referring to.... I know; I am horrible with electronics!

ok, the shortest lug connects to the tip, the medium lug attaches to the barrel, and the longest lug attaches to the outside case- without seeing the other end of the cable, as long as you have tip to tip connection and case to case connection it will work- in other words disregard the center lug-
your + should be soldered to the shortest lug, which will engage the pin part of the jack, and other wire connects to the longest lug- when you plug the plug into the jack, the pin makes contact with the contact on the inside of the jack, which is insulated from the case of the jack- and of course, the two cases also have a connection-

Why don't you just buy a speaker wire with the 1/8" stereo plug on it?

I got this one because it is part of a proven set up. I am not too concerned with having to do a bit of soldering; I just need a bit of help on the tech side.

Thank you by the way, to those who helped me out.

Regards

So slug870 did it work?

It did indeed! Thanks again guys for the tech help. I'll be heading out this weekend for my first coyote hunt with it! Went for one hunt so far, but had no call, so things were quiet...very very quiet. Hoping to see some yotes this weekend and bag my first one.
