Hey folks,

Ontario resident that has just started getting into hunting and looking for interesting trip ideas. Looking for ideas for hunts that I wouldn’t really get to do in Ontario. Currently love black bear and whitetail hunting. Archery or rifle.

I love more DIY stuff but I know most big game requires an outfitter for non residents. Budget isn’t huge so as much as a grizzly hunt is my dream don’t think that will ever happen.

Love to keep it in Canada but open to any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks and love to hear thoughts!

Some great ideas but some might be out of reach budget wise. Moose in the east is on my list and I like the hog idea!

Probably the cheapest, most unique experience for an Ontario hunter would be pronghorn antelope, mostly likely in Wyoming... it is drive to, and has an extremely high success rate (close to 100%). There are also very reasonable elk hunts available in Montana. Your best bang for your buck is Africa, mostly the East Cape or Namibia, you can take eight to ten unique trophies for the price of one Canadian moose... and do it in an entirely new landscape and culture.

Kap River Outfitters has some good hunts

Their wolf hunts? Went there for bear a couple of years ago, and we were extremely disappointed. Peter only stopped to talk to us the last day and the "guide" Cody was lazy and put us on cold bear baits. Thankfully, we brought the dogs and made the best of it by bird hunting all week.

Turkey can be a lot of fun, and relatively affordable in terms of guided hunts. There may be options for that in other parts of Ontario as a resident? Plenty of outfits in the states that do it as well. Antelope in Wyoming or New Mexico are another one that can be done on a smaller budget.
