Looking for info in M14E2 stocks made by Canadian Arsenals Limited

Canadian Arsenals Limited made birch M14E2 stocks in 1964. H. Sacks & Sons, Inc. manufactured birch M14A1 stocks in 1969. AFAIK, these were the only two manufacturers of birch M14E2/M14A1 stocks.

Does anyone know what the original finishing technique and products used where?

Originally unfinished, they were oiled with linseed before being shipped south. At that point it came down to whatever the guys had handy from linseed to motor oil.

The couple I've imported only ever got linseed oil.

All the Sacks & sons stocks from Treeline seem to have been bathed in an iodine dip to preserve them.
It gives them an orangey appearance.

For the M14A1 stock, boiled linseed oil or tung oil, were the specified finished at the time of manufacture.

All in the realm of possibility. From the factory they had a minimal coat of oil until they were received by US armories.
