Looking for info Manton and Son SxS 12g

Hi, a friend who settling an estate asked me for a value and some info on an old 1800's SxS 12g that he is looking to get rid of. I figured someone here would know more about it and it's approx value. I would assume that theses are considered antiques and do not need registration (is this correct)? It's an J. Manton & Son SxS 12g. I believe it's English in origin, but I think I heard that the ELG stamp on the barrel indicates a Belgian origin. Any info would be appreciated.

It is a Belgian hardware store/mail order grade double marked with a famous English name for marketing purposes. Its value is nominal.
It is not an antique, legally. But there is no requirement for it to be registered. Transfer would require a PAL and CFP clearance.

$150.00 give or take depending on condition of bores. But what you see things going for in auctions today you never know. The right buyer will likely give a fair bit more than my value.

Thanks for the Info. So if they never had it registered, all they need to do is verify the PAL of the buyer, correct?

Here is another gun marked MANTON.



This is a rather nice Birmingham made 14ga double. 1813 and 1855 proofs, so it was made no earlier than 1855. Inside of locks is stamped WS; I suspect that the gun was made by William Smith, a Birmingham maker.
The gun came out of the Ottawa Valley. There was a Manton in business in Montreal. Entirely possible that the MANTON on the lockplates refers to the retailer. The gun is respectable in quality - no reason to spuriously use the MANTON name to lure a prospective buyer. I've owned the gun for about 50 years. Great shooter, have taken game from ptarmigan to goose with it.
