So I'm going to inherit a .410 shotgun in the near future. I haven't seen it just yet but have been told it's a side by side double trigger break action. Apparently the word "ELSAISAN" is stamped on the side of the barrel next to the serial number. I have had no luck in researching this brand of shotgun and based on the information given to me it is in the neighbourhood of 45-50 years old. Anybody recognize this brand of shotgun?? Any information on it would be greatly appreciated as my knowledge of firearms is rather limited.

based on the information that comes up under "El Faisan" I'm convinced that's the proper name, one of the models that came up under that name ends in "-76" which matches the last digits of the model# given to me, combined with time frame (1960's) and distribution in Canada this is definitely the correct name, apparently quality of the firearm seems to be open to interpretation, found a post on a strictly shotgun website that explains it as "Junk with a capital J" and also "proud to have in my collection", either way it's staying in my family now and to me that's priceless

Clearly the value of this piece, to you, is in the provenance. The market value being somewhat, if not entirely, irrelevant. I am also fortunate enough to have guns that have been passed down to me from as far back as 2-3 previous generations. A family heirloom is one thing but, in my opinion, an heirloom that served both to protect and feed my ancestors, is second to none.

The site that you found is correct in the sense that common field guns and much higher grades were both manufactured under the name El Faisan. That's why we should always judge the one in our hands, not the maker's name. In your case, a moot point - it has more value to you than anyone else. Sorry to hear about the way it came into your possession, but glad to know it went to someone who will appreciate it. Congrats.
