Gentlemen, I have recently acquired a very nice condition Browning 30-06 bolt-action with a commercial mauser action. It has "Browning Arms Company St. Louis Mo & Montreal PQ" on the left side of the barrel, and "Made in Belgium Caliber .30-06 Only" on the right side with the serial number L5XX2. Any info you might have on this rifle would be appreciated, including current value in excellent shape. Thanks a lot.

Erik.

Often referred to as the " FN High-Power " c. 1960 - 1974.
Offered in the basic "Safari" as well as "Medallion" and "Olympian" Grades.
One of the Browning models noted for "salt wood" problems ... check for rust on metal below the stock wood surfaces.

Prices vary with caliber & grade, and may bring more or less regionally.
Round about these parts, a very good condition (no salt wood damage) Browning FN high-Power Safari in 30-06 might bring $ 750 or better.

1958 to 1968 - The last digit of the year was used. (Code "8" is duplicated for 1958 and 1968.)

Example: Serial number 8G12345:

8 = Year of manufacture (1958)
G = Model
12345 = Serial number

From 69 to 75 1968 to 1975 - The last two digits of the year was used,

Example: Serial number 69B12345:

69 = Year of manufacture (1969)
C = Model
12345 = Serial number

1975 - All product codes were changed to 3 digits and new (letter) date codes were adopted.

Example: Serial number 151RT1234

RT = Year of manufacture (1976)
151 = Model
1234 = Serial number

However this varies depending on whether it was manufactured in Japan, Europe. or North America.
