Looking for info on Parker Hale Safari Deluxe

They were a production model, though maybe not stocked in qty and limited to the ones (calibers) in stock or long term orders, they were with scroll engraved receiver and floorplate and minus the sights. You can find references of them is most Gun Digest through the '70s and time period brochures. The second most expensive model was the Varmint.

Here are some pictures of my Parker Hale in 308 Win. I picked it up for $400. Is mine a Safari De Luxe or a 1200?

What you have there is a 1200 Super (grade), as the Safari nick was only applied on early rifles and was dropped after they started offering longer barrels - then, those older rifles were called 1200 Safari Super - but they are the same rifles. The higher grade of this rifle is the 1200 Super Presentation, as described above. The DeLuxe have a schnabel fore end, like the one pictured in the old ad.

I see your rifle suffers from the "dry butt" syndrome, a very common desease of the P-H. If this may be of some interest for you, Western Gunparts had some original left not so long ago, with the P-H logo on it.

Ah,ok that explains it then. I've only owned and seen stuff from 60s.

Thanks for the info. Ya I have to get the but pad changed. I'll check Western Gunparts for sure. I want to keep it all original.

So what is the difference between the 1200 super grade and 1200 super presentation?

Expection of the Midland, which is a cheaper rifle, 350.00 $ to 500.00 $ seems to be what they're going for these days, depending on condition. A 308 Norma Magnum may reach a higher price, depending on demand and how bad someone wants it. As many Mauser rifles, they are underrated sleepers.

Terry G,

What you have is a Midland which was assembled around a large stock of new-old stock leftover Springfield '03 bolts, which P-H acquiredn the '70s. They retro-engineered the rifle, adapting a Mauser 98 style receiver around the bolt....
