Hi. This is my first time using the forum. I am trying to determine the value of a relatives old rifle. Winchester model 1894. Cal 38/55. Serial #328486. Octagon barrel Made in 1905? Good condition. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

More information required.

Barrel length, amount of bluing, What sights? are the sights original? condition of screws, any cracks in the stock? is there any pitting? bore condition?

Have a look at Greg Martin Auctions to give you a better idea of it's value. Don't know where you live, but taking it to an appraiser would be in your interest as it's probably worth over a $1000. If it's a deluxe, lot's more.

More information

Barrel - 28", screws are good, no cracks, bluing is poor, small pitting on outside of barrel, bore is fair to good, sights are "V" notch adjustable and every thing appears to be original. It has little wear but stored in a farm house closet for many years so shows slight rusting, stock has oil finish. Thanks for the help.

I have one 5 years older than yours I shoot regular. Great cal and loads of fun to shoot. I was told mine was more valuable because a lot of them were sold with hex barrels so are more common. I have a 26in round barrel. Either way if its shooting its probably worth at least $800 in decent shape for its age. Seen a couple recently on the EE for that price. Pics would be a good idea though.

Thanks everyone for your help. I will try to post some pics. Just new at this but it is a great community and a very positive thing for the sport.
