Looking for input on my first 30-06

I am torn between a few rifles. The Weatherby Vangaurd synthetic, Savage Axis xp and the Savage 11/111 Trophy Hunter xp.
I will mainly be using it for target shooting (so i would like the option of a bipod), but also will be hunting deer with it.
I would like to spend no more than $600, before taxes or any accessories (unless a fairly decent scope is included).
Any experience on said rifles or suggestions on any that would be a better option would be greatly appreciated, as this will deplete my rifle budget for the next couple of years.

Definately the Vanguard. For the price you'd be hard pressed to find a gun of that quality. I own one in 22-250 and, for the price, I wouldn't trade it for anything else. I'm even thinking about picking up another in .308.

Thanks for the advice. I was leaning towards the Vanguard but wasn't too sure since I haven't shot one yet.

That's what I'm trying to tell myself, but I should be putting at least 100 rounds through it per month, and I'm not too versed in the wear and tear of these rifles.
 
I bought a Savage 11/111 Trophy Hunter package in .30-06 this past fall. Personally, I really like it. The scope is decent. I hit what I am aiming at. I'm not getting sub MOA groups or anything but I blame the operator not the tool for that. After a 10 year break from shooting I am seriously out of practice. Darn, guess I'm going to have to practice lots this summer :)

For the price point I think it does the job and does it quite well. Will I upgrade the scope someday? Probably. Am I hitting a deer sized kill zone at 300yds reliably? Yes. And that makes me happy.

you have some good choices but the axis has a lame trigger. Also look at the t3 tikka and Browning x bolt. Play with them all and see which one you like-it's hard to choose!
 
Save some more money and buy a tikka t3 lite. Or anything else in the same price category. I don't think I will buy another savage and I have owned 2 Stevens 200, and an older savage model 10.

Don't know much about the weather by, but seem decent for price from what others have said on cgn
