I am looking for a load for my tikka 300 wsm. If anyone has a hornady manual. I am using 178 gr. A-max hornady bullet with Varget powder. Any receipts out there.

Just out of curiosity, why Varget? It's burn rate is too fast to be a very good choice in a magnum case with a heavier bullet.

I looked up a 300WSM.... and no mention of Varget powder in that cartridge.....

I have a couple of old manuals that I sometimes use but I find that the info online is accurate and more up to date. I still think you need to have a manual, but now you don't have to spend a bunch of money to stay current.

good luck watchdog..... aint experimenting grand!!

Too fast a powder for that bullet.

Hogdson data maxes out at 57 1/2 grains under 165 grain bullets with that powder and even then it is inefficient turning out velocities in the 30-06 range and producing nearly 64000 PSI.

Just take the load data for any 180gr bullet for a bullet of slightly less weight. If your new to the sport, and are a little concerned that you may not pick up pressure signs, a good rule of thumb is that you can go down a few grains in bullet weight, and still use the same data, but don't go up. A good source for load data is Hodgdons website.

If I may ask, where did you manage to find 178gr Amax and Varget? Everywhere I checked around town and online is out of stock and backordered until May or something...
