Looking for lyman 54 loads

Looking for a good deer load. Its for a lyman 54 trade rifle with a 1/48 twist . Was thinking of shooting conical's approx 400 gr. What is recommended max hunting range for somthing like this? Has anyone used lee rifling engaged at loading bullets . Have been shooting 75 gr ffg for targets, whats pyrodex like?Thanks

I only use real Black powder in my Lyman .54 but the Lyman "Plains Bullet" is deadly, it is still avail. mold/bullet # 548657.....and weighs approx. 450 grains....Ben
