Looking for more info about Swiss K11

All this talk is making me excited to get my rifle.

It’s funny how perceptions change over time. My first look at a K11 almost made me throw up with that weird safety look and strange looking bolt and bolt handle. The more I look at them though the more cool, unique, and interesting they seem.

Surprised there prices and popularity aren’t higher for a rifle that only saw 180,000 or so made

Bloke on the Range (youtube) has done some good vids on the Swiss straight pulls.
Anybody know if the GP11 will continue to flow into Canada or should I start stockpiling it in case it dries up?

GP11 is excellent ammunition and available currently at a reasonable price. Here in Halifax however sellier and bellot is available for $55/50 rounds while GP11 is $65/60 - the s&b is reloadable.

I would imagine that the Swiss will keep making GP11 for quite some time for their shooting clubs but the only way to ensure you get a good quantity at current prices is to stock up!

They're quirky rifles. They are excellent quality but are very specifically tailored to Swiss needs. The actions are chunky and not as ergonomic as say a Lee Enfield, but the 7.5x55 round especially in GP11 form is wonderful and very accurate.

Having said that, I'd like to see ANY amateur operator empty any L-E at the same speed as a K31 or K11.

Look at this way, the Swiss, possibly the most fearsome of ALL renaissance mercenaries - they used to go around Europe in units of pike-men - were so skilled in the use of arms that NOBODY would take them on in their own borders. During WW2 it would have been an act of insanity to to so, with a general in charge who could happily order his troops to fight with their bare fists when they ran out of everything else, in a country where the infrastructure had been destroyed, roads, railways, bridge, power stations - everything, to prevent it being of any use to the invader. Every bridge in the country and every tunnel in and out of the country, was rigged ready to blow, and unlike nations with ordinary armies, every male over the age of 18 was a soldier with his gun at home and ammunition to use in it, too.

Neutrality, where the cost to the invader would inevitably be as catastrophic as the Russian invasion of Finland in 1939, is nothing to be ashamed of.

While Swiss generals were only talking about scorched earth policy in case of Nazis invasion. Russians went and actually did it.

Difference is the Soviets were already invaded and had no choice. No prior scorched earth plans in case they were invaded.
The Swiss also cared about their people. Think Stalin gave a damn about his? :)

Those are terrible prices, many places still sell crates of GP-11 for less than 1$ a round.

Last time I bought any I paid about .63 cents/rd and that was about 2 years ago so deals do come up sometimes.

Here in UK, less than five hundred miles from Switzerland, OLD GP11 is CAN$1.28 per shot. AND you have to go collect it from the TWO dealers in UK that have it...Be grateful, you guys.

I should go scoop some up while it is still cheap. Wish it was reloadable but from what I hear aside from that it is excellent ammo .

It wasn't that many years ago when WSS was still going they always had a pallet on the floor with 480 rounds of gp11 for under $300 and way less on sale. I have actually had good luck reloading the GP11. Rcbs berdan decapper, Tula berdan 7.62 primers and you are good to go. The brass is too good to throw out.

All this "noble swiss neutrality" talk is making me Ill. Seriously.

Maybe read up on swiss bankers, government disinterest in german atrocities and what the Swiss did with the proceeds of the haulocost, like crates full of gold fillings and wedding rings.

Noble my ass. Opportunistically evil is more like it. At least back during the war.

Bracing for the swiss apologists, but frankly I don't care. I call it like it is.

Switzerland is a great country, but their wartime activities should not be glorified.

The Swiss certainly don’t have a perfect track record but their ability to remain neutral while the rest of Europe capitulated, surrendered or hung on for dear life is pretty amazing.

Switzerland does thing their way and has so for a long time. Unfortunately they are giving up their traditions at the moment, but that is their right to do so. Neutrality means they don't care where it comes from as long as their rules are played by.

Literally every nation in WWII committed atrocities, be it Canada, UK, US, Germany, Russia, etc. Some committed more than others, but at the end of the day horrors were committed by all sides.

Your 'opportunistically evil' Swiss, are the same as many others. The UK was top dog for trading for centuries, they didn't stay that way by playing nice. Look at the Opium wars, as one small example of Europeans not playing nice. The Swiss even have less of a claim to evil than the other European powers. They weren't committing the crimes themselves, they just processed transactions, which is a important distinction.

And are still fighting against doing the right thing in court while rich bankers buy super yachts. Thanks, but I'm not buying the "everyone is bad" ethos you are selling.
