Looking for my first CZ match chamber PRS Setup (none in stock)

Hey all I'm looking to get into PRS shooting since I'm a pretty decent shot at 50-100 yards with my CZ 452 American.
I'm looking for my first PRS setup and had my eyes on the 457 LRP Black, although it seems that it's not in stock almost everywhere and one place has it in stock but they marked up the prices beyond logic.
I was also looking at some other options that have the 457 match chamber such as the MTR with the MDT chassis. But again, it all seems to be out of stock at this time.
I found an MTR for about $1,100 but it has the 16 inch, and I think minimum of 20 inches would be more ideal for longer range?
If you can provide any input or thoughts or even direct me to the best place that offers various PRS setups, I'd greatly appreciate it. So far, I see that Tesro produces some interesting unique combo setups for the 457 etc.

IMO, based on a lot of research, anything marked "match" will also be marked CZ-USA; they will comply with the SAMMI standard for "Match Chamber" as opposed to "Sport" chamber. Any barrels marked CZUB will be in compliance with the mandatory CIP standard, which meets/exceeds the SAMMI Match standard. I also noted that when I was looking for a barrel that stuff sold as match usually sold for $100.00 more. Good marketing, makes money. Also, CZUB barrels, if threaded, will be 1/2-20; CZ-USA will be threaded as 1/2-28,

I bought a 20" CZUB Varmint barrel, and I have not be disappointed.

Be mindful that while it is always a barrel lottery each time you buy a rifle or barrel, the chances of getting a dud are much lower with companies like CZ, Tika, Anschutz.

Shooters Choice has an MTR Varmint Match in stock. I'm not up to date on pricing but it seems reasonable. It is only 16" though so maybe not what you're looking for.

16" is fine. I've hit out to 275 with it - depends more on if your scope has the elevation to compensate for a ~1050 velocity.

Match Chamber means more here in North America (expecially when others are using the term relative to SAMMI); it means very little to nothing in Europe where it is mandatory that chambers be cut to CIP standards, which, if you look at the drawings and tollerances are virtually identical to SAMMI "match"; which is way tighter than SAMMI "sport". SAMMI is voluntary, CIP is the law.

there is a LRP stock for sale right now in the EE, after 16" there's no real benefit to 22lr performance, especially standard velocity, but the benefit of a balanced rifle are there with a 20"

I have a 20" that came with a tighter factory grouping than my MTR did, I haven't tested it yet to see if it matches up on paper with Center X.

but the LRP stock might be a good start for a build.

There is a reason Anschutz barrels on their most accurate guns are all much longer than 16". If your looking to compete then Id go 20" or longer. The gun balance mentioned is a very valid point. The balance should be close to the magazine when balanced without hands on. TESRO has some builds in different CZ configurations. Worth a look. The Bergara B14 is also a very accurate well made gun from the four or five Ive played with. Rem 700 platform so lots of goodies available like the CZs. If your in South Eastern Ontario send me a PM and I can get you pointed in the proper direction.

Looking at maps on my phone, Vaughan is 3hrs10minutes from me. I have a range at my house and my shooting buddy has an awesome rimfire range with all the props and targets from 25-305yds. We also shoot matches at LTV,Lower Trent Valley which is approximately halfway. I have two specific guns for comp shooting. One is a gun I put together thats a semi with only one part Ruger, the magazine. Its extremely accurate with a Kidd Match barrel and Kidd two stage trigger with tapped trigger pins, adjustable V Block and Volquartsen Comp Bolt with a Kahles 318i sitting in a Manners CF stock. My other guns a bolt Vudoo360 in an XRS chassis with aKahles 328i. Both have Arca rails. Your welcome to come and try them and get the gist of how things work or can meet at Lower Trent for a match and you can try a bunch of stuff. I also have a gun that may interest you. Your welcome to try it and if it floats ur boat you can buy it. Its the first gun I bought for shooting CRPS and Outlaw rimfire matches. Im old and have owned many and this one is definately in the top 5 of all my rimfires. Youll quickly see once you shoot it. Its an Anschutz 64MPR thats been modified for competition. I would suggest

This setup will shoot amazing for what it is. And is probably one of the most versatile starting points for a build.

Wow, I really appreciate the offer; that's incredibly generous of you! It sounds like you’ve put together some seriously well-thought-out setups, and I’d love the chance to come out, learn, and get a feel for things firsthand.
The Lower Trent Valley range sounds like a great option since it’s about halfway. I’d definitely be interested in meeting there for a match or just to get some trigger time and see what PRS is all about in a proper setting.
That Anschutz 64MPR you mentioned definitely has my interest; sounds like a tack driver, especially if it’s in your top five after owning so many rimfires. I'd love to try it out and see how it feels.

If you do swap, don't sell your old barrel until you verify the new one. It does not matter who's barrel you buy, it is a lottery.

That makes total sense. Should probably be careful not to mess with what works. I have mine set up in a chassis that is perfectly balanced and it shoots great.

When I miss it is always about my wind call, dope, or an unstable position. Never the accuracy of the gun.

Specs that might help you in this game.

Longer and heavier profile barrel... I think 20 and 22" barrels are ideal (mobility matters). If going prefit, then you will have around 0.9 to 1" as contours. If going with a gunsmith installed barrel, then truck axle is an option with pros/cons. Threaded muzzle so that a tuner is an option (if you dont need it, great but better to have this as an option). I have no issue with prefits depending on the action

chamber is really dependent on the ammo you want to use... and you really should consider better grades like Lapua Center X and Eley match. Then practise with the lesser grade of the same brand/type.

Twist is a rabbit hole and depends on how far you are going to compete. Inside 250yds, all work... beyond, a faster twist is important

Actions - something that you can make feed and extract 100% is far more important then cost or brand. For simplicity in a bolt, I would go CZ457. For a semi, the 10/22 properly set up has many advantages. Many many Rem 700 based actions are used and you can discuss setup good/bad with those that run them. Setup and mags matter .... too many rifles that hiccup when pushed hard in a match and if a gun doesn't run, you will find it very hard to hit anything.

Trigger - lighter is not always better. Very personal so go test every style you can. I like a heavier pull as I like a deliberate style of shooting for this game.... I have plenty of experience with few ounce triggers as my first background was F class.

Stock and chassis - balance is so important and most will allow for massive amounts of forend weight to be added. ARCA rails are a good idea. Ergonomics really matter and some shooters actually have to fight their setup because they choose fashion over function. If you wear glasses, this is doubly important.

Bedding is super important and I consider skim bedding pretty much a necessity for any combo

Personally, I run a customised 10/22 and a well tuned EM332A (yes a $225 bolt rifle with very strong Euro roots). Rimfire is greatly limited by the ammo so there is a hard limit that all rifles butt into. Spending goobs of money will not push past that. Barrels matter and many factory pipes shoot well..... when they don't, there are tons of quality match barrels that will.... at least to the ammo limits.

Then there is optics and shooting supports... for another time.

Jerry, thank you very much for your insight and some really solid points there.
I've actually been considering starting with a CZ 457 Synthetic and eventually upgrading to a heavy match barrel. I understand that achieving optimal accuracy requires precise headspace adjustment when swapping barrels, which seems like a job not anyone could achieve; needing precision tools such as a depth micrometer, and understanding how to properly install shims if needed, etc.

Don't get worked up about headspace as there are very few options. As expected, this is completely ammo based and you have this to consider.

If you are going to run Eley, and ONLY Eley... go 0.042" for headspace. if really brave and looking to be part of the cool kids club, 0.041"... and let the fun begin.

For EVERYTHING else, 0.043" and leave it alone.

This is a game of function, NOT fashion. If the gun don't run, you better have brought a nice lunch and snacks.

tune using higher grades of the match ammo brands... lot test, cause that is super important (sorry, but many lots of ammo just aren't worth the lofty cost you will pay). Look at the groups at 100yds (2X5rds as a bare min just to know if you need to spend anymore time... more groups better, larger # of rds in the group better still) but leave the Chronie at home.... Look at EVERY impact vs conditions (don't make excuses for the shooting).

If you know how to shoot consistently, the ammo is telling you what it can do. If you keep making excuses, stop testing, start practising until you KNOW that you are only making good shots.

If you are like most shooters in Canada that can only find good ammo but limited options, spin on a tuner and hope it can get the barrel and ammo to have a marriage.

And when you have 2 or 3 of the best whatever, go right ahead and shoot steel at 300yds. Let's say a 2/3 IPSC ... hopefully with a target flasher.

If you can't hammer the steel 10 for 10, pick the one that has the highest hit rate after 3 attempts. At that distance, it either will or it will not.... and if it will not, why shoot it? If doing really well, consider a smaller target like say 12"... now you will really know what works.

I like the target on a berm so I can see where the misses go. If it is because of a bad wind call, GREAT. If it is a WTF, consider using another lot with no/less surprises.

And yes, a day with some wind is a good idea. The good ammo will track in the wind... cause it is usually windy on match day.
