Hey guys

I have a r1 1911 from Rem.

The stock beavertail/grip safety is super annoying, i want to change it. The one on my coonan 1911 is so much nicer.

The gun finish is black so obviously i want it to match.

Any recommandations for this modification?

Fitting is required i guess?

Gunsmith?

thanks!

Does yours have the memory bump on it that you dislike?

You can check with Wanstalls for 1911 parts or order them from Brownells. Keep in mind, there are a couple profiles in the beavertal ie .220° and .250° radiused. Some fitting will be required.

It's doable if you know your 1911 workings and a very handy person. Out of a 10 difficulty rating, I would rate this anywhere from a 4 (if you luck out and it drops right in but slim chance as most 1911 parts are made oversized) to a 10 if major fitting is required ie change profile on the frame. You're probably sitting at a 6.5.

thank you for the very good reply.

the radius doesnt bother me as much as the thin beaver tail that is on mine.

When i get my hand high and tight on the gun. that part dig in the web of my hand. which is the only reason why i want to change it.

Its a little bit uncomfortable.
