Hello everybody,

I'm currently in the process of purchasing a new gun. I'm looking for something light weight for deer hunting(5.5 to 6.0 pds range). I currently own a tikka and I've had nothing but problems with it. Anyways, I was looking for a Browning Mountain Titanium but wasn't able to find one. The next one on the list was a Remington model 700 Alaskan Titanium but I'm not sure of the quality of this gun, the other thing is it doesn't have a detatchable magazine. I know you can have the gun modified but where I live it would be a challange to find someone who could do a good job. My 3rd option was a Sako finnlight, I'm not impressed of the service I received from Stoager (Toronto) when I had my Tikka fixed last fall. Any suggestion out their??

I'm a big lover of Sako/Tikka rifles, I currently own three and have owned another three. It is unusual to ever have anything go wrong.

Your other option is a Kimber, I have one in 308 and scoped with a belly full of shells it is well under 7 pounds and is very accurate.

Thanks for the info, I know when I bought my tikka I thought that this was going to last forever. It has let me down too many times ( and caused to miss serveral deer)Time for a new one...

Cheers,

Cheers,

If it fires and the barrel is straight, then I would say its the shooter, not the rifle that missed the deer.;)

I bought a Rem model 700 Mountain LSS(not the overpriced Alaskan abortion) in .260 for the kid(~ 6.5 before scope). I love that little rifle. The non LSS version was available in a DM configuration. Ask to see one at your favorite gun store. See how it fits. Another popular option is the Savage 111 versions, they are about 6.5 lbs. (sans scope) in the non magnum calibers and are available with DM.

I fractured my wrist about 1.5 years ago and ended up having to go with a lighter rifle than my Remington 700 BDL 30.06.shooting left handed  I ended up getting a Browning micro hunter 7mm-08.Although a little heavier than you are looking for it is an awesome rifle.:)

Well, you sure cane to the right place, you will get lots advice from everyone but me!:D

I don't know much about light rifles and I belive that the 375 H&H will cover all your needs!:D

Have to say, I like the Kimber rifles. Sort of like a higher class Winchester Model 70.

That being said so far my best out of the box rifle has been the Remington 5R milspec in .308. It shoots 165 grain hunting ammo like a true sniper rifle. 10 Rounds and I had one huge smile on my face for the rest of the day. Considering it's ready to shoot out of the box, the price is fairly reasonable.

Ohhhh it's not the shooter, it's definatly the gun. The fireing pin was not punching the shell hard enough to ignite it. The other thing that was wrong was the fireing pin didn't ####..

Piece of crap, I'll give you $200 for it.:)

What style of hunting are you doing? Stand hunting, still hunting/stalking or pushing bush with dogs?

There are few choices for under 6lbs, and they are not cheap, the Kimber is ~ $1100-1300, the Weatherby Ultralight is ~$1700, and the Browning Ti is ~$1600.

But for 6-6.5lbs there are lots of choices Browning, Savage/Stevens, Ruger, Remington, all under $1000. The only choices at 6.5lbs with a DM are the Savage and the Browning Xbolt.

Check out the Frontier Firearms website at the top of the page. He has some good deals on Savage rifles that and some deals that come with scopes and dm's.

And I believe he's still offering free shipping.

My remmy 700 XCR is great, but very heavy. I say go for the remmy 700 titanium. 50 kagillion people cna't all have made the same mistake. Remmington make good guns. You may not have bragging rights, but they are well built and reliable.

I am a huge fan of the Remington 700. 30-06 is what I shoot. With their new triggers and such a huge selection of what options you want for a rifle(wood stock blued barrel to the extreme weather one with stainless), the choice for me is a no brainer. Rem 700

The new Rem. Mdl. 7 is a very nice gun, both the laminated /fluted and the camo/fluted both feel good and solid, though not my cup of tea. I'm sure they would outshoot the imports.
