Looking for new rifle caliber suggestions

It is going to be more for shooting paper than hunting. However I want a rifle that would be good for white tails, with a flat trajectory and capable of about 400-500 yards shots(for shooting paper, not animals at that distance).

Also this will not be a be all end all middle weight gun, when money allows i will acquire more calibers 243, 25-06,7mm magnum, 270, 308 and 30-06 are all on the list.

I am just looking for the "best" calibre for me to split the difference currently.
Are you a handloader?

.

270 wsm with 130gr'ers for the speed win or 308 for a great all around. Not sure what kind of rifle you like but the Tikka T3 is a great bang for the buck.

my 2 cents.

I think you want two different rifles. Something in 25 cal for hunting and another dedicated target rifle. Lots of calibers to choose from there.

I have decided on the 308 win due to the large selection of bullet weights in factory loadings also for ammo availability.

After the 308 purchase a 243,25-06, and a 7mm Remington magnum are now on the list when money allows.

Thanks everyone.
