Hello,

Im in the market for a o/u with a shorter barrel 24" is preferred. Has anyone had an experience with any? Id like to hear peoples input. My dad has a few guns among them is a marocchi silver snipe 28" barrel length. I cannot access the EE section yet so cant really see whats around. Where does everyone usually look for used guns? My dad purchased his a few years ago some from lebaron and other gun club members but I have not joined a club yet.

Btw Im from toronto but live in Windsor at the moment.

As a rule short barrels are quicker but more difficult to swing smoothly. I had a 20 gauge sxs with 25" barrels that was quick as lightning to get on target but I shot behind birds because it didn't have much momentum on the swing. I currently use a lightweight O/U with 28" barrels that give a good compromise on quickness and smoothness of swing.

Hello,

I can emphathize. I learned to shoot shotgun with a short barrel and I HATE long barreled shotguns. My 870 has a 28" barrel and I want to throw it in the lake. I will never again consider a barrel over 67cm/26". But nobody is offering them. I asked a big local retailer about getting me a 12 gauge CZ Canvasback with the 26" barrel just last week and after a couple days inquiring they informed me it was not available. The CZ-USA website lists it as a standard item, but apparently not imported to Canada. A few years ago there was traffic in shorter barreled shotguns but now it seems everyone has gone to the longer is better school.

The only source of truly short barrels I have been able to find is Will Bilozir. Some of the Italian and Spanish makers he deals with list 61cm (~24") as available in some models, such as the F.A.I.R Becaccia or the Fausti Albion. Bilozir doesn't stock anything that short, but if those lengths are truly offered, he should be able to bring them in. Count on a $2500 minimum budget.

I have a citori upland special that has 24" barrels. Very handy in thick woodcock and rabbit/ hare cover. They don't make them anymore but i have seen one recently on the used rack at Al Flahertys in Toronto.
