Well I have an L61R standard face Sako action, a McMillan Hunter stock with an larger than #3 but not quite #4 barrel channel, and I don't know what to build both in caliber & barrel make? I was going to rebuild my 25/06 AI Ron Smith barrel you may have seen in this post:

Now I am thinking of going with something else, mainly because I will need a lot of fill in the barrel channel to get it to look right. Here is a standard Magnum contour barrel in the stock.

Being I will have to cut the shank off that Ron Smith barrel already, there will be a big gap where the shank tapers on that barrel.

Don't know what make of barrel, I like my Gaillard but am thinking of maybe trying something new. I am thinking fluted also to cut a bit of weight.

As for caliber, I am not sure about going 25/06 AI either? I have the dies and about 200 rounds of Fire Formed brass, I just don't kow if it's the ticket.

Don't want a 30/06, I know that already, not so sure about a 280 as I have a 7mm already. Like the 6.5, but a 6.5/06? Not so sure.

Please help!

1st, whats the purpose for the rifle, what do you plan to do with it? That will give you an idea for caliber.
2nd, who cares what it looks like if it shoots. Do you really want a good looking rifle that won't hit anything?
I have friends with golf clubs like that, the can't golf worth a $Hit but damn they sure look good.

Not worried it won't shoot with the right barrel. Just not sure what caliber to build? Maybe a 338/06 as I have thousands of 338 bullets. Anyone have opinions on this caliber?
