Hey Everyone,

Looking at getting a SIG P220 Elite Stainless and would like to know what you folks think about them.

Anyone have any experience with the Short Return Trigger?

Thanks

I have a 220 ST which is fantastic to shoot although it is rather heavy. The weight of course does help with the felt recoil. I have a 229 and a 226 with the SRT installed and I don't think I would get another. It works as advertised but I would be concerned that with the 220 someone not used to the recoil could easily inadvertantly fire a second unintended round. The reset really is short.

The 220 is well known for it's "out of the box" accuracy. The weight of the all stainless model really helps to control recoil so follow up shots are much easier. This pistol is almost as easy to shoot as a 9mm. I would describe the recoil to be more of a "push back" into the hands with very little muzzle flip.

cap325, I'm not sure why you are advising to get an external extractor model over the internal. Many thousands of internal extractor models have been sold with no problems that I am aware of. Sig did have a well reported problem with the external extractors on the 220 "Carry" models but I believe that has been fixed.

Really easy to shoot, fun. Only drawback might be weight if that's a possible issue (and price, evidently). I can shoot one of them off-hand than I can shoot most plastic guns two-handed (my own failing, but it goes to show how easy the P22x ST are to shoot).

I have the 220 purchased recently, really fallin in love with it. I also have the 226ST, which I have had for several years and would trust with my life. Also bought a 229Elite and in love with it as well. If the gun fits your hand you will love it, however .45acp is not cheap to shoot.

I bought the stainless elite. Though I am new to handguns, I can't really testify as to accuracy. I do know that it doesn't like the Winchester white box BRB 185 gr, but it will still put them on the paper. All the other ammo I tried shoots as well as I do.

As for the quality of the gun, I think it is wonderful. The all stainless makes it a joy to shoot all day. The QC on my gun was excellent. There is a thread in here by me with lots of pics.

The ONLY down side I can think of is price.

I have an older P220 with the heel release. It's very accurate and reliable. Bought it used in the late '80's and still runs like a clock. Now if I could only find a stainless model without the rail........

Do a search on sigforum.com. There are literally dozens if not hundreds of threads on this issue. The problem is not limited to the P220 Carry model. In fact, the problem is so widespread that a well-known American gunsmith is working on designing an aftermarket internal extractor for the P220. Sig's own "fix" was to switch to external extractors (hence my recommendation).

To clarify, the internal extractor problem only applies to newer P220s with American-made, stainless steel slides. Older German guns with internal extractors are fine.

ya capp is right, there is alot of info on this in the sigforum, all german made stamped slides are fine though. and i also believe i may be wrong though . that some elites may have the internal extractor. this is a fairly new fix sig came up with.
