I never looked into that, maybe i will research custom. Ive always wanted a Wilson Combat X Tac and that may be the one i go with, but damn that ed brown is a ###y beast.

Not sure I agree with that. STI and other double stack models are killing it. It's a revolved designed, not necessarily original 1911. That's why you get this belief they are no good.


Whatever suits your preference. Some appeal to me, others do not. Fit and finish is more guaranteed on those pistols.

The STI/SVI 2011s are the best double stack 1911-ish pistols (more so than the Caspian ones, like the above Dan Wesson), but they still require individual magazines to be tuned for correct function.

Delta Force trialled 2011s in .40 to replace their legacy 1911s, but results were not satisfactory, so they chose Glocks instead. FBI HRT purchased pistols built by Les Baer on Para Ordnance frames, but these were very quickly dropped in favour of what is now known as the Springfield Professional (even then, most FBI HRT and SWAT agents use Glocks instead).

Tuning 2011s for reliability may be par for the course to be competitive in certain gun games, but I'm not sure that the headache is worthwhile for most casual shooters.

Im concerned with function followed by asthetics. Im really liking the wilson more and more. i still need to look into full customs. I thought about going with a Salient 1911, i like their tacticool glocks.

I think thats why i like it alot... its a non tradititional 1911... well its not a 1911 is probably more accurate LOL Our local shop has one and its just a beastly looking pistol... reminds me of something robocop would have LOL. Plus i dont have any 10mm and id like to get a glock 20 at some point as well.

I'm partial to Ed Brown as an owner of an Executive Target; It's a laser and I prefered it's more traditional look.

BTW Robocop had a modified Beretta 93r

If you're looking at custom work take a look at Mars Armament - the focus is on durability and reliability, even as far as making and heat treating new pins. A custom gun is only great if it always goes bang.
