Looking for opinions on the colt canada iur 15.7" barrel vs the CC SA20 barrel

I currently have the sa20 but have a chance to swap it for an iur and wondering what the pros and cons would be for each barrel. I'm still new to the AR world so any help is appreciated.

It depends on what you are after for performance. There are more benefits to the platform change than there are to the barrel change. That being said, the SA20 will be more of a collector's gun than any of the IUR platforms. The IUR is going to be free floated, which is a plus and has a monolithic top rail, which is a plus, depending on the sighting system you prefer. The shorter length will lower your velocities, but since you will only be using it for target practice and not shooting baddies, this may not matter much. It will, however, be louder. The IUR is a heavier platform overall, but a shorter barrel so weight is really a bit of a toss up. The barrel build quality is the same.

The 15.7 IUR is a Free floating heavy barrel, so it will be more accurate.

Cons to the IUR are, They're hard to change barrels and clean the outside of the barrel that is within the rail.

Ok. I know of the free float barrel in the iur. I should have said it would be a straight trade sa20 upper for the iur upper. Not just a barrel swap.

The IUR has carbine length gas tube. Some might say the sa20 is possibly more reliable with the rifle length gas tube and slightly smoother shooting.

I have both the IUR Upper and a SA20. To a collector, the complete rifle will be much more valuable in it's original configuration. I do find the SA20 lighter and like to shoot with the iron sights. You can mount a range of optics on the SA20 upper also. Swapping out to the IUR upper does add weight, and if that is a consideration, you could start to look around for Colt's new MRR upper as it is as light as the SA20 upper if not lighter.

If I had the cash, I'd just buy as short barrel MRR and put my SA20 in the safe for good.

Why would you put your SA20 in the safe for good? Saving it for some particular reason?

My sa20 is a rifle I built. It's all colt canada except the charging handle and BCG. Still working on those and swapped out for magpul furniture. So no real collector value in my gun.

Sa20 upper would be more desirable since they no longer produce a barrel in that length.

Why would you put your SA20 in the safe for good? Saving it for some particular reason?

Just because it's a limited production run and I've shot only a few hundred rounds thru it. And I kind of like to have a piece of history. It's a beautifully made rifle with superb craftsmanship. As point out they don't make barrels like that anymore, or won't for some time. Remember when the SA15 and SA20 came out, it was the first time they sold to the civilian market, and if not for the MRR, could have been the last.

All of my SA20 is original, I swapped out the charging handle but still have the original.
