Friend of mine has a vintage 1892 that he (sad story) lost the internal parts to when he took it apart to clean it and before he got it back together again they were lost. Just wondering how hard it will be to find the parts he need to get it back together again as i am unfamiliar with these rifles or the parts that make them up.

Pics shoud show what its missing. A list or some info would be appriciated. Its .44-40 cal.

If all the internals are gone you would be better off to buy an old action complete from a money standpoint. Sometimes you see them on the EE or at gunshows. Buying every part for a 92 action new would be fairly expensive. I don't know why people feel like they have to tear a Winchester apart to clean it. Open action, give it a good blast with an aeresol cleaner and lubricate, you're done.

Wow, just about everything is gone but the bolt. Also those two pairs of holes, forward and aft on the receiver are not factory. Someone maybe had a side mount for a scope on it. If it were mine, I think I would look for a complete action or maybe another 92 with busted wood and a worn out or cut barrel. The drilled receiver devalues the rifle badly, if you put $200-$300 or more into parts you still have a rifle worth not much more. However if you have an action in original condition the value would increase substantially. My 2 cents.

Im just scratching my head winderig how you lose that many parts. I mean ive lost small screws and springs from time to time, but to lose all the internals is quite and accomplishment! Haha

the owner is not worried about the value. its a family heirloom, it was a working rifle on his familly ranch.

He might not be worried about the value but he will about the cost to refurbish. The screws and pins alone could hit $100, the lever won't be cheap either. Have him buy a doner gun that looks like its been run over by a wagon train...in 38 or 44WCF

I see it all the time, a non shooting family member thinks he's doing good by strip cleaning, then gets side tracked and before you know it ten years have past and the parts tray has been chucked along with juniors old bike parts.

something like that.

anyone with a list of what i need?

win 92 parts

I have had good luck getting parts for various win. models from Misty Gunworks in Castor, alta. bruce buys in parts guns and does a good job getting parts to the folks who need them.

You will probably need to buy a donor action as was suggested earlier. You could buy something with a shot out barrel for a couple hundred bucks. Buying all new parts is going to cost many times that much.

Here is a parts diagram. I can email it to you if you PM me your email address.
