Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with some places to hunt this 2012 deer season (rifle). I just moved and dont know many places or people for that matter. Looking for people to hunt with also if anyone is interested. Anywhere around Moosomin, Rocanville, Maryfield, Flemming so on and so forth. If anyone knows pm me thanks so much.

Best advice I can give is find an established hunt camp/hunt group that's looking for new members. My experience in Ontario is that average hunter age is increasing and some are dropping out because of it. Getting permission on private property takes some leg work and expect some rejection. You can hunt deer solo but you'll need good bush skills and there are times when you will need help pulling an animal out.

Might be an idea for the forum to create a new area where hunting groups can post they have an "opening" for a hunter or two and hunters looking to join other hunters to post their needs.

A couple of fellows looking to join a group may find they can get together and start up a new hunting camp.

Moosomin, Rocanville, Maryfield, Flemming

And in what province or territory might one find these bustling metropolises? :p

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but I have been running hunting (and fishing) camps for well over thirty years. There is no way on God's green earth I would accept a new member sight unseen, who is looking to join a camp via the Internet. No offence to the OP.

If you are new in town, join a service club, church, shooting range, etc etc to meet people. Once people know you, they might be able to suggest folks to hunt with. Sitting at a computer and asking for help is not likely to turn into a hunting opportunity for anybody. GOOD LUCK!

Doug

Hunt clubs are not the norm in western provinces. It appears that you now live in Saskatchewan where deer thrive and property to hunt on is almost endless. Go out scouting, joint a shooting club, Fish and Game Club, talk to the Game Wardens, talk to land owners, rural school bus driver, rural grader operators, etc............... these people will help.

I know where all those places are, but I am on the opposite end of Saskatchewan, So I can't help you out. What has always worked for me is to go do some scouting (vehicle and binoculars) then go knock on some nearby farm house doors. Dress neat, be freindly, and get permission well in advance of when you actually plan to hunt. Always offer some wild treats if you collect game on thier property. A bag of deer jerky goes a long way with every landowner I ever met.

Man, you are so close to the Que'Appelle River Valley it's ridiculous. The only fly in the ointment, is that there is there are alot of Indian Reserves along both sides of the riverbanks. Find yourself some rural pasture and locate a landowner map from the local rural municipality office. There are spots along this long winding river system that remind me very much of the foothills of Alberta.
It's truly a Saskatchewan gem IMO.

Stop banging on your keyboard and start banging on some doors... thats what the rest of us non-landowners do.
