Hey everyone, fair warning a bit of a noob looking for recommendations by industry vets. Excuse my french if anything is wrong below.

I am looking to get into competitive riffle shooting. I have done much research online but hit a bit of a wall today with conflicting advice from retails shops.

I have looked into purchasing the following set up for the future as sales are happening depending on the item selected: B&T APC308 with Primary Arms 4-14X44mm ACSS HUD DMR as main scope, and offset Sig Sauer Romeo5. My goal is not to be in LONG range shooting. I would like to stay in the short-mid or even 3 gun.

Any advice on another main scope I should be looking at?

Any other Rifles I should be looking at? I was told the APC 308 was both good and bad by two different shops. Feel free to chime in.

TIA - the above is a lot, I know!

If your goal is short to mid or 3gun, I would look at 223/556 platforms instead of 308.

^^^This^^^…and look at a nice 1-6 or 1-8 LPVO. 4-14 magnification is way to much for 3 Gun / mid range action shooting.

And since I’m going for it here, the Romeo 5 will be a clunky offset. Look for something lower profile like the Romeo1.

This ^^^^ for sure.

Right now the hottest ticket is probably gonna be a CZ Bren 2, the restricteds are available and word is NRs should be here spring - summer of 2023.

If you cant wait that long I would pick up a X95 Tavor. Very capable gun, ultra reliable and I love the balance (not front heavy / very compact) but it is a bullpup (which aren't for everyone) and it wont be as accurate as the Bren.

For optics I would recommend a LPVO. A 1-6X / 1-8X / 1-10X would work great (if you want to reach out maybe look at the higher powered units like the Vortex Razor 1-10X). The good thing about these is that they can be dialled back to 1X which is where the majority of your time in 3 gun is spent.

Good luck.

I was using a WS-MCR for 3gun, ran well but not perfect. Top shooters in open/semi seemed to all be using CZ Bren 2 .223, Bushmaster ACR .223 or BT .223. I'd look there. Money wise CZ would be your best bet. I should be getting my CZ soon after a 5 month wait.

I'd check the latest amendment of Bill C-21, I think the only one that will escape confiscation will be the M1 Garand.

From the new ammendment:

226 The firearm of the design commonly known
as the US Rifle M1, and any variant or modified
version of it, including the:
(a) Australian Defense Industries US Rifle M1
Garand;
(b) Beretta M1 Garand;
(c) Breda M1 Garand;
(d) Century Arms M1;
(e) Federal Ordnance M1 Garand Tanker;
(f) Fulton Armory M1 Garand;
(g) IAI M333 M1 Garand;
etc, etc, etc, the list goes on

The Troy PAR if it runs will be the fastest rifle available. I've seen them hit or miss and customer service is pretty bad. If this all goes through it'll be manual action, mag fed rifles or we all go to bolts like Thailand 3gun. Neither of those interest me so I'll be doing shotgun and pistol matches.

Unless your planning on trooper classes….no one shoots 308 in 3 gun

Unfortunately if this passes then the next thread topic is going to be best manual rifle for 3gun. I’m hoping 2gun (shotgun and pistol) matches become a thing in that case.
