I am looking at purchasing a 22 semi auto pistol in the near future. I have never owned a .22 handgun before. I'm looking for something accuate in a semi auto that has a 10 shot magazine. The following come to mind:
Buckmark
Hi Standard
Ruger Mk 2

This is not a WTB ad, I am just looking for advice and opinions from those with more knowledge on the subject.

Of these, I would say the Ruger... Chose the grip angle you are the most confortable with and you are all set. The are really accurate. If you want to spend a little less, there's a few Russian MCM floating around. If you want to spend a little more, the Hammerli Essex is kind of nice...

There's nothing wrong with the HS... If you can find a used one with a low rounds counts! Watch out for the frame under the right side grip panel. Maybe it's just bad luck, but 3 members cracked their frame in that location. It can also be picky with the magazine, the lip angle/spacing as to perfect for them to work... The new HS company as a good write up about that on their website. The quality of the new ones seems on par with the older ones, but I find them a little pricey.

Just my 2 cents,
Mike. :)

I have a Ruger 22/45 Mark II which is pretty good for me. However, if you want a .22 pistol that actually looks like a gun and not some kiddie pistol, try the CZ Kadet in 22LR. It's pretty ###y.

I see a lot of members like the Rugers. I had to decide between a Ruger and a Buckmark Std. URX. The URX just felt better in my hand. I have tried one range members Ruger and it wasn't bad either. Some members say they hate their Rugers. I love my Buckmark it has 700 rounds trough it with only one jam, and that was with #### ammo. I would recommend you purchase the best unit for you, regardless of anyone elses opinions. This type of handgun is a personal preference for what works for you. Some will swear by their Hi Standards, and these are really nice guns as wel, and others will insist on Rugers or Brownings. If you can handle them before you buy them you will make a better decision.

Depending on your budget, and what you're wanting to do, the Buckmark Target 5.5 is an excellent firearm. Accurate out of the box, adjustable tigger and trouble free.

Nothing against Ruger, I just prefer the look and feel of the Bucky.

The S&W M41 is super semi-auto pistol too. A little more money, but well worth it.

I have one of each and find them both to be fine guns.

I have Smith and Wesson model S it fits good and shoots very well it aint pretty but new are around 400$ give or take very easy to strip and clean as well

I would say Ruger, Browning, or High Standard :). Seriously, I've owned a Ruger Mk II for 22 years and it's been great—accurate and reliable. As Levi Garrett mentioned up-thread a set of Pachmayrs made it feel much better. But I've also shot Brownings (just this afternoon actually!) and High Standards and really like them as well. You probably wouldn't go wrong with any of them—they'd be my top three picks. If I was buying today I'd probably go for a Browning, mostly for looks. Pick the one that fits your budget and taste—I don't think you'd be dissappointed with any of them.

I love my Ruger and would never sell it. The thing is built like a tank.

my friend has the buckmark and it shoots just as well as my ruger. It doesnt seem as tough, but he hasnt had any problems with it yet and it was cheaper as well.

I love my Buckmark! It is a tack driver and has not failed me yet. The disassembly is easier than that of a Ruger. Please see the links to the manuals below:

You can break the Ruger during assembly/dissasembly and quite easily too (read section 5 in the Ruger dissasembly instructions). The Browning does not have this handicap.

Ruger Mark 2's are around $310 for the base model and Brownings are $370 (prices from Wholesale sports in Calgary).

Ruger mags where if memory serves around $25 and Brownings $35. Both are good pistols I just liked the ease of take-down and feel of the Browning I would buy it again with out hesitation.

The only 2 that I would say are sh** are the Walther P22 and any norinco. I cannot speak to any other manufacturers.

I'm newbie here, but with previous military experience. Hi to everyone. I was shopping for target .22 and was looking at Hammerli X-Esse. They a bit more expensive than Mark's and Buckmark's, but if money isn't a question, would you guys consider X-Esse? If not please tell me why. In advance appreciate your replies.
