If all you want to do is plink with it, maybe a little target shooting the Ruger MkI or MkII are nice pistols, and with a couple of mods, very nice pistols (no experience with the MkIII, so can't comment). and the 9/10 roung mags are nice for plinking (fewer reloads).
The Vostok/Izhmech MCM is a real target pistol, during the '50s and '60 it won medals at the olympics, the Ruger has been around since the '40s and I don't recall anyone ever mentioning olympic competion. Unfortunatly, the MCM has 5 shot mags, and they are harder to find and pricier than the ruger mags.
Don't discount a good .22 revolver, they can be quite accurate. They are more complicated than most semis; but you don't need a mag.

I have an Xesse and a Sig Mosquito. I have also used a Ruger. I can safely recommend the Xesse (its a tack driver and 100% reliable) and the Ruger. If you feel like wasting nearly 600 dollars then buy the Mosquito. It jams and fails to extract all the damn time. Its a very frustrating pistol. 700+ rounds through it and it just keep choking...
I love my MKII 22/45. It shoots lots of .22, shoots without problems when it's dirty (we'll fire 2 bricks of ammo in an afternoon), and is a great way to introduce friends to my .45 (everything is in the proper place). That being said, I agree with most people here, go to the range, and test fire as many .22's as you can. Find the one that feels best for you and go from there.

I'm surprised nobody mentionned what a nightmare putting back the Ruger together is. I love mine and it shoots great but I hate cleaning the damn thing. My friends who have one feel the same way.

I've got both a Ruger MkI and HS Victor, love both. BUT the HS is so much better made with all or most parts machined as opposed to stamped and with the barrel weights the transition to my 1911A1(which is usually along for the ride) isn't uncomfortable. JM2C

The consensus it not good, not good at all. IMHO, they're not worth the $430-$500 they cost. I sent mine back after shooting it twice because it was ejecting brass in my face. No FTE's or FTF's, it was well built and comfortable to shoot, LCF was there as well, but the damn thing wouldn't eject properly. I didn't want to have modify a brand new gun to work properly. I got store credit and bought a 22/45, which I should have bought in the first place. For a more expensive .22, perhaps the CZ kadet, Beretta Neos, or SW 41 might more fitting.
