Looking for recommendations for a .22lr rifle (UPDATED)

This is my strongest consideration.. if I can find it locally here in vancouver area

Check with Reliable, they probably have them on the shelf. WSS lists that model for $269.99 if you can live with having it shipped (and they have some available). Smacdonald on this forum may have them for a better price, but it will be online/mail order again.

USSR made Win Wildcat;)

1+ for Wildcat.

Works great. I have it for few months, shot about 500 rounds - never had a single issue.

About precision - well, if I'd put some decent scope (not the $40 Bushnell, which cannot be sharply focused on 50 meters), and also under controlled conditions without wind - I could measure the accuracy, but it looks like it's precise enough.

Again, do not try to "save" on the scope. You will spoil the best rifle and finally will end up paying more.

Um yeah--I think that if the order is for greater than $100, then WSS will ship between stores for free. Not sure if they still do this, so check. Having said that, I'd tend to deal with Reliable, despite the price difference. In my experience, they have superb customer service, knowlegeable staff, and will let you fiddle about with the gun in the store to your heart's conent. WSS won't even let you work the action!

Actually I've changed my mind. I'm gunnin for this model now, I like the stock better.

Now just to find out who has it in the Vancouver area

If you are on a budget you can buy the standard Mark II that has been recommended just like the one from Mysticplayers thread, and then get that same stock from Boyds for $100. They have a great selection of stocks for the Mark II! Save you anywhere from $50-100!

Here Is What I Finally Purchased

Savage Mark II BTVS .22 LR ... wood laminate thumb stock, 21 inch stainless steel barrel .. added a Bushnell 4X32mm scope (from Reliable $59)

I know this went a bit over the maximum price that I originally wanted to spend but I couldn't say no to what I paid for it.

While shopping around I found that this rifle goes for anywhere between $500 - $580, and it has to be book ordered. .. I got this for only $390 from Wanstalls.

Wanstalls had an awesome sale from November 16-20 on all their stock.

The brick of CCI Velocitors was a gift from my brother for my birthday(thanks bro!:) I hope the rifle likes the Velocitors

Looking forward to shooting it this Friday.

Then that's your gun. Nobody will argue against the 10/22 being a good gun for the money. Another .22 you might want to consider is a Cooey, you can find them used for $100.ish. I've got one of each and haven't had a problem with either.

peace..

ps. the Ruger has over 8000 rounds through it

Sorry to say it, but I will.

What about the Zastava Z5 in .22LR Very accurate bolt action and under $300. Made in Serbia and although comes with a cheap beechwood stock is comparable to the CZ 512.

Hi all. Here's the Z-5 i bought at Ellwood Epps in WMR for 318$. I think the one in LR were 299$. Walnut stock. Very nice. The steel work is great. Love it.
