I've always been an 870 guy and I know very little about the SxS market.

Id like to pick up one that has removeable chokes and an ejector. No an extractor.
I've heard that the safety automatically goes on after breaking the action on some guns..I don't want one like that.
12gauge ofcourse.


anyone have any recommendations? :)

What's your price range? Quality sxs shotguns require time and skill to build and are not cheap. If you are looking for a hunting sxs I believe baikal still makes an ejector sxs however fit is extremely important in sxs style shooting.

Many Spanish guns were made with Ejectors but quality and cost are all over the map. But Spanish guns can offer some great quality for a great price. I'm not even going to try to spell their names. Aya is one I can spell though
Fit is most important. Older guns can usually be choked with not to much trouble.

If you are looking for removeable chokes and ejectors, and maybe a single trigger, you are looking for a fairly modern gun and they will be pricey (depending on your budget). Most will likely have the automatic safety. The great majority of older SxS's will not have removeable chokes and many will be extractors. There are lower priced new SxS's such as CZ or Yildiz that have removeable chokes but I don't believe they have ejectors. The more you add to a SxS, the higher the cost goes (at least on a quality SxS). Also the more to go wrong. I don't know if the new Baikals have ejectors or not. With a SxS, you really have to decide what you want in one. If you really aren't after fit/finish or quality or superb handling characteristics, then a lower priced SxS may be ok for you. However, as already mentioned, fit is quite important in a SxS.
I am different. I prefer double triggers, extractors and fixed chokes in a SxS.
 
The bulk of the guns out there are built IC/MOD fixed choke, there are very few that come with interchangeable choke in the SXS's. As said, CZ,Yildiz, Akkar, Stoeger and Baikal on the bottom end of the scale, under the 1200.00 mark. Then you jump to the 3000.00 and up mark, Webley and Scott is a Turkish made gun, and there is one from FAIR (?) called the Iside, those are both 25-3500 guns. Then Chapuis offers one in the 4-5000.00 range, and Beretta in the 5-7000.00 range. There are some others in Europe who rebrand Turkish or Spanish guns, most don't offer interchangable chokes, most don't offer 3" chambers in a SXS either.
 
Another thing is, what do you want it for. If for waterfowl then you want something that has a bit of weight and beefiness to it or it will likely kick the snot out of you with heavy loads. If you want it for upland, then usually one wants one that is light and quick handling/pointing. SxS's become pretty "sport specific" if you want to reap the full benefits out of shooting a SxS. But in my mind, for upland, there is nothing like a nice old English SxS with superb handling characteristics. Some pretty nice French ones as well.

My price range is $500-$700.

Id like to be able to use for birds (flying and turkey) and slugs for deer. My 870 is a really good for all my shotgun hunting needs, but I really like the traditional feel and look of a SxS.
 
Baikal 43E is what you're looking for in your price range. The Ejectors are selectable as well as the trigger. Comes with 5 chokes I believe. Quality well built gun. Fit and finish can be slightly crude. Good weight for duck hunting sightly heavy for upland. Comes in nickel and blue. I use a baikal sxs but prefer dual triggers and extractors myself
 
Much like you, I started out with an 870 Wingmaster; one gun for everything. But nowadays my 870 is dedicated to waterfowl (it has the heft that Gunsaholic referred to and can handle steel shot) and for deer (I can swap barrels and scope it).

My favourite shotgun pursuits are upland birds and rabbits and those are all taken with doubles (yes, more than one, but I'll admit that one double would suffice). To walk through the woods and fields all morning carrying my 870 like I used to would now feel like lugging a section of train rail. I know because I tried it once for old times sake. If I was buying new double, the CZ's would be the gun I'd get for my budget. But I've gotten way, way more gun by buying used, because I don't mind fixed choke barrels that will never see steel shot.
 
As ninepointer said, you will get much more gun for the same money buying used. I have a number of SxS's. Only one I bought new and that was a CZ Ringneck. Fired 9 shots through it and sold it and bought another used SxS with the money. There are some pretty good deals in this country on used SxS's. Granted most won't have removeable chokes . Funny thing is, if you mention removeable chokes to a SxS purist, they will cringe at the thought of removeable chokes in a SxS.
 
I recommend you get one. When I thought I might like one I found a used Boito A-680 in the EE a few years ago for $250 and while it's not a gun to inspire envy it does work as it should and for so little money it confirmed my suspicion that I'd like shooting a side by side. I'll buy a nicer one when I can afford it, but meanwhile this one is useful and I have fun shooting it.
