As the title implies, I'm looking for the bolt assembly for a Remington Sportsmaster 512.
A quick FYI, it's a bolt-action, tubular magazine fed rifle that can eat .22 short, .22 long and .22 long rifle. I know it's not the smooth bore (512SB) model since there's rifling present; as for the sights, the rear sight is a v notch and front is a blade with a cylinder-shaped tip (looks like a bead when taking up a sight picture. My aunt found the rifle in the crossbeams of her basement laundry room ceiling; her and I have yet to find the bolt despite looking in obvious spots.
I have tried various links through Remington's "Obsolete Parts" section; most places are sold out of all but little parts such as extractors and firing pins. What makes things worse is that these babies were only made from 1941 - 1962 despite a fair quantity (some 300,000) were made.
Am I S.O.L. if I can't find the original bolt assembly? If I manage to find a new one, will it fit out-of-the box (this I ask because a lot of 500 series parts can interchange with the 512...?) I'm really eager to have it working again; especially since it won't break the bank and, of course, the rifle is free.
Any help is always appreciated from fellow CGNers.
