Hello,

I'm looking for a good if not great deal on a new Ruger SR-22. However, searching for deals on the web only bring up large retailers that for the most part are either sold out or asking way too much. I did try Reliable's recent sale and had one in my cart multiple times but was not a registered buyer so by the time I was they were all gone :(
So with their recent sale in mind I would like to find a deal similar to theirs which was $511. So, if you know of a local shop anywhere in Canada or retailer who has a sale on or coming up please PM me or respond to this thread.

Thanks for reading :)

Im sorry for being nosey but have you owned a 10/22? If you have any plains on swapping barrels and or stock, you can save alot of money buyinh a normal 10/22. Im sure you know this. I just hate seeing people spend $600+ on an sr only to drop another $400 on upgrades.
The amount youd save buying a 10/22, you could buy a new barrel or AR stock.
Have you called any Canadian tires? There are a few in Calgary that carry guns.

Hello,

Not nosey at all, I appreciate the inquiry. I have not owned a Ruger before and had seriously considered buying the stock 10/22 and upgrading the stock with one of the numerous kits but after months of research and comparisons the money spent on a regular 10/22 then a $150-200 kit (without added accessories) I would end up with the same cost of a SR but perhaps without the blued or threaded barrel. I just figured the SR-22 would be a good base and the closest to what I'd want to spend a bunch of time / money modding a regular 10/22 to. That and the fact the SR would be great for what I want right from the get go so mods, if they happened at all, could take time and consideration and not be as urgent in my mind as it would be if I just started with the stock version. I have a nice semi 22 now with a scope but I'm looking for the black gun feel without having to radically modify a factory sample.

Again, thanks for the consideration but I'm pretty set on the SR and was disappointed I missed out on last night's sale due to my neglect to register with Reliable before the sale choked the servers, etc.
That's why I created this thread, I'm not looking to spend $600+ on an SR. I'd like to find out about sales with this site's help where a Ruger SR-22 is going for close to or better then the $511 deal I missed out on last night.

Have you looked into the cost of a AR stock and new barrel.
The sr barrel is a beast for weight.
Have you looked at the dlask builds or magnum research guns?
An axiom stock is 1.2lb and really lightens the gun and free floats the barrel. Good if you have a light barrel.
Have you also looked at the cost of building a 10/22.
Hical and dlask have many of the parts.
Wanstalls, questar and milarms has great parts.
I have the Tactical innovations CH22 receiver. Has a charging handle just like an AR. This also means the ejection port is smaller.
IMO looks great with a tacsol barrel.
Have fun with whatever you choose.

The weird thing about SR-22 is they sometimes breed inside your gun safe. $511 for a new SR22 is a great deal indeed, I can see why you'd be annoyed at missing that. There's no way you can build a SR 22 from a new 10/22 + Nordic kit for $500.

the SR22 stock is nicer than the cheaper 10/22 tactical stocks, the barrel is free floated, the Hogue grip is nice and the stock is actually adjustable, not like on some of the cheaper aftermarket stocks. Plus if you dress up a 10/22, you still have the pinner stock barrel. SR22 comes with a heavier, threaded barrel.

Buy a 10/22, $250. Used takeoff barrel, $150, actual Nordic chassis, or Troy Chassis, $300. Sell the stock barrel and stock, $-75. $625.

Yes, its fun to do, but at the end of the day, its cheaper to buy it.

You have a point if you leave the sr22 alone. However how many people do that?
First goes the barrel because of accuracy and or weight. Second add $200 for dlask rails!
Soon your at 1k or more!
Build from scratch is cheapest if you want a fully moded 10/22.

I haven't done any builds to completion but, the math says:
Used SR22 goes for about $500 to $550 (needs rails for $200) = $750
OR
Used 10/22 goes for about $220 to $280 (needs Troy Chassis for $300, sights for about $80, barrel for $200 to $300) = $860 to $960
It may be fun to build but, I'ld take factory in this case.

I was asked a similar question about one of my builds. Here's the math in $US, though individual experiences may vary:

Build your own:
10/22: $275
Nordic: $180
Hogue HG & grip: $80
Charger 10" threaded bbl: $100
Kinitech Can: $60
ARFX Stock: $100
Sell off 10/22 take off bbl & wood stock...Maybe $75
Total $725

SR-22: $600
HG & grip: $80
Charger bbl: $100
Can $60
Stock $100
SR-22 bbl resell - $100
SR-22 HG & stock resell - $60
Total $780... so, in the same ballpark anyways.

Well I appreciate all the feedback. I am especially intrigued by the Tactical innovations CH22 BILLET MACHINED REAR CHARGING HANDLE REPLACEMENT 10/22® RECEIVER! I had no idea that existed and would be allowed in Canada. Definitely a lot to consider. Would those of you that put up descriptions of part be able to provide some Canadian supplier links? I can import pretty easily as well as I have an address in upper state NY that I can hit in a 45 min drive but if I could get the parts from Canadian suppliers it would save me any border hassles.
I have no issues building up from a stock 10/22 if need be but "JR Hartman" what did you mean by a pinner stock barrel? If I was going to go with a replacement receiver like the CH22 would it be best to start with an SR or regular 10/22?

Save your money, Buy a used 10/22 or even better a 10/22 tigger group.
Then buy the CH22 receiver, the stock you'd like and barrel.
Please remember because of the unique charging handle some AR kits won't work unless major mods are done.
This is really sad since all thats missing from the troy and ATI AR kits is a working AR charging handle.
Wanstalls and Questar have the CH22
If you want to save more money, wait till boxing day to buy them!!! It may save you $40-60+ bucks

Oh btw, Tactical solutions and Tactical innovations use the same paint so matching colors is easy!
If you're in Alberta I'd be happy to help you out! And you can try my set-up
16" barrel 3.75lbs with a trs-25 rds and fully loaded mag

Well thank you everyone for the great information. I think I should have just asked straight out "how do I make a 10/22 as close to an AR platform as possible?" I like the idea of building my ideal rifle from scratch. I was going for the SR because it was an already factory ready to go .22 "black gun" or as close as I thought was available in Canada. The key term being "I thought"! Now that I know about that charging handle receiver I am back to square one on a completely different path lol.
little_airwolf thank you very much for the offer!! I am in Ontario unfortunately but any advise you could provide on my build would be much appreciated. I think I should start a new thread in the Rimfire forum to achieve this. Can't have too many .22s right? So, I'll keep this thread going looking for a good SR deal just in case.
