*THIS IS NOT A WTB THREAD*

Hello everyone,

I'm new here so if there's a more appropriate section for this post please direct me to it.

I'm looking at purchasing a Savage Mk1/2 (preferably Mk2) FVT (heavy barrel with Williams Target sights). I'd like to be able to handle one before I buy to see what the sights are like etc. Unfortunately none of my local stores stock this model. I do however get around much of Ontario in my travels.

The only Ontario stores I've found online that stock this model are Elwood Epps and Bullseye North. I'd rather not shop at Elwood Epps and It seems like they're always out of stock at Bullseye North when I go through London.

If anyone is aware of a store in Ontario that stocks the FVT which might not have an online presence (ie Canadian Tire) I would be very interested.

Maybe go to Epps to 'handle' the rifle, then order where ever else you wish if you like it. You may not care for that one. I have a Sav B22-FV and prefer the 'feel' of it to the MKII. You can put Williams sights on many diff rifles.

While not Ontario. The Gun Dealer in NB, has MK1 and MK2 FVT in both LH and RH in stock.

The Williams has a large peep. So it would be similar to the AR A2 sights but hooded front.

I've thought about this but ideally I'd like to be handle the specific rifle before I buy to ensure everything is there and no damage occurs in transit.

Bullseye actually had these on sale this weekend (and Savage has a rebate available). I went so far as to put it in my cart and enter my info but ultimately decided against it. The next day it was sold. These being stocked only one or two at a time doesn't help with being able to find one. I did speak with someone who said he found one in a CT. Although ideally I'd rather not have to visit every CT I find in my travels.

Thanks. If I were to order online it would probably be from Bullseye.

I've used this style of aperture sight before and I like them. I was more talking about the quality, functionality etc.

LOVE the Mk 1 FVT

I bought a whole pile of them for a Boy Scout camp more more than ten years ago. They are used constantly each summer and have performed very very well.

Peep sights are basic. But great for youth and great for the casual .22 bolt gunner.

A better one, for adults, is to find a used Mossberg M44. I sent a bunch of those to a camp also, and they are heavier, durable, and have better peep sights.

Stocks on them are a little small for my liking, more for kids. I wish it had a longer grip. My pinky is always just dangling. While I don't got a FVT I got a FV SR ( just a shorter barrel ) FVT is just the Standard FV Mark 2 with peep sights. So plenty of reviews on it. Ive seen people put the FVT in At One Stocks.

Heard Yodave is making a trigger spring for the accu trigger.

I agree the 144, 44 are nice guns. I had a 144 LSA. Only negative was the rear sight had to be dialed up, or removed in order to remove the bolt.

Yeah, I've got my hands on a Mk2 FV since it is very common in stores. I'll probably keep the plastic stock for a while but eventually I plan to go to an MDT Oryx or some Boyd's stock.

Last time I saw one of the Savage FVT it was more money than I paid for my daughters Anschutz 64 with target sights... If you aren't stuck on buying that specific model Savage for any reason and want to shoot target sights, take a look for an old Anschutz 64, it will be a FAR better rifle.

*EDIT* I just read that you want to put it in a chassis later, just buy a used Savage mark 2 FV, they can be had for under $300

Yeah over 500 for a 300$ rifle with basic peep sights. I think you are paying more for the sights, than the rifle. I've seen 190s for that price with M18 front sight and the Anschutz rear.

Both my Anschutz 64s were under 600$

I like my Savage, but love my Anschutz more.

It's sounds stupid I know but I'm looking to buy new.

By the time I add sights to the FV and have a gunsmith mount them it would be more than the FVT.

Rimfire are fine with few hundred or thousands rounds thru it. I see no real benefit buying a new rimfire if I can get one way cheaper.

New is over 650 plus tax, if you buying from one thst doesn't offer Free shipping or pickup you're looking at 50$ more. Where there is one for 500 shipped. That's almost 300$ off. Then thats extra money that can be used to buy a chassis.

The FVT MK1/2 was on my Buy List a few years ago when I was in the market for a bolt with peeps.
I managed to handle both at the LGS. The stock and sights felt cheap but would probably work fine.
The mag....well it's a Savage and flimsy which steered me more to the MK1.
After searching to see what my options were I ended up finding a beautifully refinished Shultz&Larsen off the EE.
Old school steel and wood....a tack driver! One of my Never Sells
