Looking for semi-auto .22 pellet pistol sub 500 fps.

I’ve done some looking around and I’m having a bit of a hard time finding what I’m looking for so hopefully someone can give me a suggestion or two. I would like a sub 500 fps semi auto .22 cal pellet pistol that is available in Canada. My goal, like other peoples whose threads I’ve read on here is to have a pellet pistol that I can carry in the bush for when I come across grouse etc. A lot of the reading that I’ve done points to the Crosman 2240, but it’s single shot, and I’d really prefer to have a semi.

I just don’t follow or know enough about modern pellet pistols to make an educated decision, and a lot of what I search online doesn’t seem to point to something that I can get in Canada. I have found decent fps semi-autos, but they seem to be in .177 cal instead of .22. I’d really like to have the most amount of punch (high fps, and .22 cal) as possible without becoming restricted.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
Not sure there is such a thing. There's a big Hatsan and an Evanix that are multi-shot but I think bolt action, not semi.
I also vouch for the 2240, I made mine into 1740 with 177 Walther barrel, steel breech, scope and hammer spring mod. Gives up to 60 shots that make one hole at 20 yards or so.

Sub 500fps is not high and what do you mean by restricted?

I understand that Sub 500 fps is not "high" in the big picture, however what I meant without getting too wordy is that I would like something as close to the 500 fps limit as possible.

What I mean by restricted is the Canadian law (as I understand it), any air gun that shoots over 500 fps, and has a high muzzle energy of 4.2 foot-pounds or greater is considered a firearm for the purpose of the Firearms Act. And being a pistol, it would then be considered restricted and at that point I wouldn't be able to take it in the bush with me without a carry permit which I'm pretty sure I'd never qualify for, or I would just go that route in the first place.

So what I'm looking for, if I was to sum it up in one line, is something that is .22 cal pellet pistol/revolver, semi-automatic and as close to, but not over 500 fps.
 
I am not sure what you are looking for exists, closest would be Umarex Desert Eagle but it is 177. In that class it is at the top end of power and accuracy and semi (sort of). Big, clunky and plasticky though and still 177. I wouldn't use it to shoot grouse humanely. Maybe a HW45 with a scope or 2240 that you already discounted. Single shot but powerful.
I can't even think of a semi 22 pellet shooter in the US or EU.

It appears that you are correct. What I'm looking for doesn't currently exist on the new market (so I'm being told, and my current searching is revealing). From what I've been able to find out they haven't made what I'm looking for in over 25 years. The Crosman 600 that idontknowjack mentioned would indeed fit the bill, but the trouble is finding a used one.

It looks like I'll just get the 2240 and live with it being single shot, until I can come across an old Crosman 600, or even a Crosman 44 Peacemaker in 22.

The only thing with co2 is you have to keep them warm so as long as it fits under your jacket you should be able to get the performance you need to hunt with. Head shots are a must and in that case .177 should do although those grouse have extremely small brains.
 
I was in the same boat... There isn't any choice sadly other than the 2240... But hey it's a fun and cheap little air pistol.
 
I’d second the Daisy Powerline 622X. .22 calibre CO2 powered Beretta 92 clone with six-shot rotary magazines, packs a punch at 400 FPS. However they are rare and the only one I’m aware of in Canada is the one I own which I’m not interested in parting with.

The crosman 600s cost 200-300 used but they are worth every penny. They are in .22, 10 shot, semi auto, pretty accurate, and most importantly, powerful.

However if you want to shoot the wings off flies get a Crosman 2240 and put on a steel breech and longer barrel.
