I am trying to decide between 2 rifles, the first one is a Remington 700 SPS and the second is a Tikka T3 Lite

So far everyone I have talked to is telling me to go with the Tikka but I can get a great deal on the 700SPS and the Tikka is much more.

So here is my questions, does anyone have any experance with the Remington 700SPS good or bad? and same question for the Tikka T3 Lite

You can email me at encounter@clientfinders.net or just post your answers here.

Thanks guys,

there is nothing wrong with a 700 SPS. its a full fledged Remington 700, just with a 'budget' stock on it. later on if you want you can replace just about anything on it with hundreds of different aftermarket Remington 700 accessories. fibreglass remmy 700 bell & carlson, mcmillan, HS precision, etc stocks show up on the EE every week... drop it into an upgraded stock later on down the road and you have a wicked rifle.

you buy the Tikka youll get the same accuracy, same type of crap tupperware stock, but youre stuck with it pretty much the way it is since theres little in the way of aftermarket goods for it.

the Tikka T3 is a great gun, but at a rediculously inflated price.
the Remington SPS is a great gun, at a fair price.
IMO they are both about the same, but one is overpriced and the other is not.

i highly recommend you look at the Ruger Hawkeyes at SIR mailorder for $599, they come with ringmounts so youre actually only paying about $500 for the gun. the Ruger M77 action is my favorite production gun.
also consider the Savages/Stevens if you are really on a budget and want the most for your money - though they really dominate the sub-$500 market. once you get up to $600 the Ruger Hawkeye is the best deal going right now in a new gun.... IMO.

I think that odds are the Tikka will shoot better out of the box, however it will cost a lot less to make the remington a real shooter. And if you get a tuesday-thursday remington:D you'll be better off right away!

Thanks guys, I can get the 700SPS for around 500 and the Tikka is just about 700. But the 700SPS just feels right when I aim it so I am leaning towards that one. Thanks again guys,

There is your choice.
If it feels right then go for it.
What fits the bloke up the lane my not be for you. We are individuals and hence we have choices.
Go with what works for you.
BTW: both are fine and I'd go with the 700 just cause I dont like some of the Tikka's features ie: the ittsy bittsy ejection port, and the fact you cant load it from the top. IMO

LeftyDick is right. Follow the rule that if the gun fits you well, you can shoot well with it, and no matter how good a gun is, if it doesn't fit you, you won't be the one who can realise its full potential. While the Tikkas have been getting much better reviews for accuracy value and I don't like Remingtons generally (in recent years they seem to have been resting on their laurels and letting quality control suffer,) the fact is the 700 is a benchmark design and there is nothing inherently wrong with it, and in the SPS version it isn't grossly overpriced. (Just a couple of $100 more than a Stevens 200 that will shoot as well and can be just as easily upgraded and customised.)

Update

:)Just as an update, Today I picked up a Rem 700S/S 30-06 from a guy on this forum and its great, can't wait to use it.

Thanks again guys for all you input,

Chris
