I recently shouldered and fired an Anschutz 8001 in 17 cal. It was a work of art and deadly accurate. However, I can't quite cough up 2k for an air rifle at this point in time.

What other ones can you gurus recommend for less than half that price that shoots accuare and is suitable for 10 meter matches.

Appreciate your input.

Go look on the Canadian airgun forum, lots of good information there. There are a few good older spring or CO2 rifles that are more accurate than most shooters and can bet purchassed at a good price since they are no longer considered Olympic quality. (new guns are mostly compresed air as opposed to the CO2 rifles of the previous generation. A CO2 refill station is relatively cheap to set up and can keep you shooting for years. Tau still builds a nice target rifle. Not the same quality as what you tried, but still very nice.

try finding a FWB 300 series, they are more accurate than most can shoot and around $500-$600. I like single strokes, been through the C02 and pcp gig and find rifles with external air sources to be a real PITA. a single stroke will give you consistent shots as the pressure is always the same and you never have to stop and fill up or change bottles. FWB = Feinwerkbau they can last a life time if you take care of them. Another match air rifle in that price range is the Walther LGR its a work horse and deadly accurate. I once shot 500 pellets through a hole 10% larger than a single pellet hole with a Walther LGR at 10 meters. more accurate you cannot find than these two, fancier yes newer yes, but no more accurate. My current trainer is a FWB 603

You might also take a look at the Air Arms tartget rifles at Airgun Source. They are reasonably priced and very accurate!

An older FWB300 (recoilless spring-piston) or FWB600 series (single pump) rifle should fit the bill. The 300's can be found for a quarter of that $2k 8001. There are others as well in CO2 (FWB C60 series, Steyr), Single pump (Walther, Steyr)...etc There's a Walther LGM-1 for sale on the CAF classifieds right now.

cz makes a cz200 that is very accurate, match accurate, right around 500, but you need a pump as its a pcp
