Looking for some good gopher .22 ammo

I shoot a lakefield 64b it really likes winchester dynapoints.But doesn't destroy them like i want.My old cooey with remington cyclones did the job very well but they are crazy dirty and powder blow back in a semi.I don't really want to pay much more than $35 for 500 rounds.I have some federal bulk packs to try yet.And my american eagles don't cycle very well. Any help would be apreciated thanks.

I recently got bricks of yellow jackets at WSS for under $35.00, they would do the trick if they are reliable and accurate in your gun. Stingers/Quick shocks are even better, but you'll never find them at that price.
 
I had good results with the federal 550 bulk packs. They don't blow up gophers as well as a stinger but they do the job. I stocked up with 30 boxes when they were on sale locally 3 years ago at $12/box.

Winchester power points are the most accurate I've tried in my gopher gun. But they are kinda expensive.
 
Have you tried the Winchester 333s? I use them all the time with great success. I can vouch for their reliability, never taken a gopher with them but I have heard others swear by them for this. I have picked up all kinds at Walmart lately.
 
Make sure the action is clean. I had a 64b and it cycled well with just about everything I shot through it, but did need cleaning from time to time. Someone will be able to tell you how to tear it down. I didn't know how back then and just flushed it out with a can of wd40 and worked the action back and forth until it came clean. Lots of grit, brass flakes and powder build up in there.
 
I bought some Federal Hyper Velocity stuff but haven't tried it yet. With the pen trick they might prove to be interesting.

I found the FED Champion HP,did better job for my Cooey.

Winchester wildcats ! Yea i no there not hollows ..... All i can say is they are fairly accurate ,cheap $2.57 a box at :canadaFlag: tire ( try buying a whole brick cus sometimes the upc only registars one 50 count box so you get 500 rounds for 2 1/2 bucks,they never question themselves , just smile and wish her a nice day:Dithen .. run .. forest ..run!) .... and there powerful enough to chamber my Ruger MK 111 (the spring is still pretty stiff ):bump:. Never took out a gopher with these , but fairly sure if it did'nt kill em , he need a wheelchair ramp to crawl down his next hole ! :eek:

In your price range Yellow Jackets for sure. If you want to try something different pick up some "Quick-Shok" by CCI. Impressive stuff for .22 LR but it is 2x the price.
 
If you're in Alberta, the UFA farm stores have cases of 5000 Federal American Eagle HP 38gr, works out to $14/400 brick, $1.40 for 40. Easy 1 inch groups off the tailgate with the stock 10/22 carbine, and alot of airborne cartwheeling gophers, (if that is any indicator of anything)! Too bad I have 6 other kinds of ammo to use up, I'd go all Federal. Wife's Brno Model 2, 25" Barrel, loves the Rem Cyclones, very accurate. Stingers are terrible in that gun, like 2" groups at 25 yards!
 
Quick shock are very hostile to water bottles. I have not shot any ground pigs with them as there are none in my neighbourhood. If I get up to the Okanagan I might get the chance again this summer.

I too have had the American Eagle 38 Grain HP's flip gophers. This is the only ammo I have shot that does this. I thought the Brick of Velocitor's would be more devistating however, like mentioned earlier, they just pass right through.
 
I tried a few differnt kinds of ammuntion on gophers this weekend, and my favorite so far for my 22 turned out to be the CCI Quik-Shok. It was quite a bit more devastating on the litte guys than some other kinds. It is lighter (32 grains), but it is very fast for a 22 lr round (advertised at 1640 fps). I got a gopher to do a flip with the Quik-Shok as well... looked really cool. :)
