Good morning guys,

A customer came into my shop today, had a fired casing on her key chain and we got to talking about it. It was fired, had been crimped. It came from a 21 gun salute from her grandfathers funeral. She is hoping to have a bullet put back in to make it look whole.
The only markings on the case are on the bottom and circle the firing pin.

They are " L C 1 O "
Any idea what round this is?

And the second question, would any one be able to put a piece of lead in for her?

If so, then it was a blank and never had a bullet in it.
(Which Is what I'd assume an honor guard would fire at a funeral salute)
 
Those cases were never meant to have a bullet in them. You'll need to cut the case to size, and then insert a bullet. I would think it would retain more value as is, then to cut up the case...

But, if she really wants to do it, any one with a bit of reloading knowledge and a dremel should be able to help you.

Take a picture of it beside an object of a known size.. like a quarter, or even beside a ruler... it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what it is.

It's a Lake City cartridge manufactured in 2010. Is it 7.62x51 or 5.56x45? It might be easier to just find a LC10 marked casing and put a bullet in the top for her, then tell her to keep the blank round safely tucked away somewhere. Mangling up that blank round may lead to regrets on her part later on.
