Looking for some input on restoring a Winchester model 1897

Hello,

Well I now have my great grandfathers Winchester model 1897, and it's a fine looking piece however it's in sad shape and requires some love.

I feel pretty confident at being able to break it down piece by piece to restore and clean it up my self, what should I be aware of and what are some of the common problems encountered?

What is the best method to clean the barrel to remove rust spots and discolouration ?
and where would you look to find the wood piece on the pump action?

I would post pictures however I'm still awaiting full citizenship to this site....so hopefully soon

Pics would help. Old winchesters should not be touched unless you are certain it's not collectible as-is.
