Looking for some input regarding my most recent EE buy...

So putting aside the fact that this rifle came with surprises...

Assuming this was to be re-sold someday, with full disclosure of its medallion and non-Chrome bore, what would you guys put on it for a value? I originally didn't care if it had a non-Chrome bore so that bit won't bother me much assuming I can get the bore clean and it's not damaged, (which so far, amazingly it looks totally fine). The medallion... Well that pissed me of for sure, and I'm generally pissed that it wasn't disclosed. But with that said, I probably still would have bought it at the price I paid. I just would have liked to know about it.

So what say you? What's this thing worth? It does have positive attributes... It came with a spare magazine (?, don't know why) as well as a muzzle brake, and hical rear peep sight. Plus it's got a spring loaded firing pin standard since it's a 1950...

But for reference... Just look at the patches I got out of it. The top left was the first one. It was literally black and tarry. I can't believe he's still claiming it was cleaned after each use...

I would say that this rifle is worth at least $400 because of the extras (stock, brake, Hi-cal sight) and the badge is a selling feature but has no value.
The non-chrome bore is also a selling feature to SKS snipers (like me ) my 1950 SKS bore "weeps" black after sitting for several days. I end up with
patches that look just like yours, when I get around to doing a maintenance clean if I have not been shooting.

This is why you need to get a bunch of detailed pics. Some will call you a picture hunter if you end up not buying, but sometimes pictures are only way to go.

If the ad said differently, comment should be made that rifle was not as advertised.

Honestly I did get a ton of pics. Nothing under the shell holder on the stock mind you, I should have caught that I suppose. But honestly who hides a medallion under a shell holder like that?

And Robert, forgive me if I'm being thick, but are you being serious? You actually think the medallion is a selling feature? And do you actually prefer a non-Chrome bore?

Yes, I am serious on both points ^^ The badge has an appearance of being genuinely Russian and may be part of a sniper's uniform.

The non-chromed bores on the 1950 SKS and Yugo SKS have a "reputation" of giving better accuracy - if they are not damaged.

Realisticly, a chromed bore is better for these less-accurate, corrosive ammo blasters, but when wishing them to be more accurate, little things help.

The badge is on the cheek piece though which is just stupid. Maybe if it was put on the outside of the stock... Maybe. But on the cheek piece of a Monte Carlo stock? It'll grind yer face off under recoil.

But yeah the bore on this looks totally fine. No rust that I can see. It's not shiny per say, but it doesn't appear to have any defects and the rifling looks good, including in the throat area. Maybe it'll be a shooter, who knows?

For the price I paid, I might just keep it. But I'm admittedly disgruntled about the perversion of this beautiful stock.

I do agree that the badge should have been mentioned especially because it is in such an awkward place. Maybe the person who put it there thought
that he was copying some sort of sniper trick to get a cheek weld in the exact same location every time?

Could have been a lefty?

Ask and get verbal or PM confirmation of refund before sending the gun back. If you send it back and then request a refund, you could be out of a gun and the money. Regardless, either way there are no guarantees when dealing with some people. I wouldn't be happy with what I got and what was advertised.

I'll be honest, I don't know if I should send it back or not. I got it shipped for $400 all in. Even considering the stupid badge it's not a bad price considering the rifle and sight are worth almost that alone. I think the sights go for $70 plus tax.

The only reason for me to send it back now is out of spite. But it'll cost me the same to go buy a new refurb and put a peep sight on it. And I'd still have an even worse Russian stock. I've got some thinking to do.

Hey! I did a good job on guesstimating the value. How about seeing how she shoots before deciding what to do? Make sure the receiver is tight
in that stock and let us know how it goes.:d

Well... a quick update on this thing. I decided in the end to keep it. I figured all things considered it was still worth what I paid for it, and I can live with the shell holder cover-up. I've wanted an sks with a comfortable stock for a long time and this allows me that. If I were to put one like this together it would cost me over $600, so I'll take the stupid badge thing at a discounted rate...

Also, it shoots. Really well In fact for an sks. I cleaned it for a long long time, until the patches came out clean. And I had 5 rounds of Barnul fmj kicking around in my ammo safe from a previous sks I used to own so I decided to take a quick stop out in the bush yesterday and plunk them into a cardboard target to see where it was shooting. I paced out 40 big boy steps and using a stump for a rest I shot all five rounds into a ragged 1.25" group. Pretty good given the conditions IMHO. My last couple sks's shot groups of 2" plus at that distance.
Happy with my decision. But still peeved with the seller for his non-disclosure of the badge in the stock...

I would give the seller the option of buying it back for the selling price. If not a low rating would be justified. This whole system is highly based on the honor system.
