Looking for some wisdom- x-bolt or tikka t3?

i have never owned an xbolt but lots of t3's. no issues with the t3's currently have a 7rem, 338 win and a 300wsm. no issues with the mags. i carry a spare loaded when hunting. have also owned a few abolts. work fine but the trigger needs work. on my 325 i changed trigger spring and a minor adjustment.

I have owned Browning rifles. Now I only have an A-5 12ga trunk gun left. The Tikka's are a grade above the Brownings in my book. I never had a Browning shoot as accurately as my 6.5x55 T3's. The only Browning rifle I'll buy going forward will be one designed by J.M. Browning.

I should mention that I'm also looking to get the rifle in left hand so my options diminish quickly.

I feel your pain when it comes to shopping for a factory rifle, Kg. Pretty slim pickings for us southpaws.

My opinion, of the two you are looking at, I'd go Tikka every time. They are way over priced, for what they are, IMO. But are a pretty solid, simple, reliable design that generally shoots well. The XBolt is an abortion and I wouldn't own one at any price. YMMV:).

Have you considered any other makes of LH rifles? Tradex has some LH Zastava Mausers, that would last forever. Ruger offers a few solid LH models. Savage could be an option for you as well.

Good luck with your shopping!

Wow, I always find it hilarious when a debate between two rifles is started, and a whole lot of know-it-alls show up to say the one they own is better than the other. When in fact they have never used the "other".

I am with gtrussel and I have used both, at the range, and to kill many deer and moose. The X-Bolt is also the ONLY Browning I have liked in 30 years...... Nothing against Tikka, very nice rifles, but the new x-bolt is a step above. The only complaint I have with most Tikkas/Sakos is the pompous attitude of those that use them and refuse to try anything else.... :D

I'll throw in my 2 cents.
I looked at a lot of rifles before I bought my X-bolt.
The Sako 85 Bavarian was my preference as it just fit me well. It felt right. The only problem with the Sako 85 was the price. The rifle was going to be around $2,000.00 +, which I just didn't want to spend that at the time.
I have never shot a Tikka so I can't comment on the accuracy, but after taking a look at that stock, I didn't want to pursue it any further.
I tried the X-bolt and even though it didn't fit as nice as the Sako, it fit me well enough. I find my 7mm Rem mag very comfortable to shoot and the factory trigger is much better than most of the other rifles I have shot. It's very accurate for the first 2 shots. After that the group starts to open up, but not being a qualified sniper, or F-class shooter, that could be me as much as the rifle. Still, it shoots well within a minute of moose. I don't measure but at 100 and 180 yards (Waterford Gun Club) the first 2 are between a half minute and a minute. I just can't keep the 3rd one in that tight. Still the 3rd is not more than 1.5 MOA.
I like a little bling so I got the white gold with a Nikon Monarch 2.5 x 10 for $2,000.00 taxes in, out the door. Would the Sako be nicer, shoot better, maybe, but I love my X-bolt.

I know you said the Sako was out of your price range, and I hear you, me too, but that single set trigger I think would be my favorite thing about that rifle, after I considered how well it fit me.
Sometimes I wish I had waited to buy and put a little more money together and got the 85 Bavarian.

Who is showing their true wisdom,or lack of would be a better way to put it.Lets move on boys!

Do you enjoy posting like a jackass all the time? I've been noticing that you are taking shots at just about anyone whom does not fit into your definition of your world. What the hell is wrong with you? Or is it that you are deriving some kind of twisted pleasure when throwing barbs at everyone? Knock it off already would you!

I'm getting tired of reading the useless drivel you are writing, this forum is for all and intended to share information and opinion, not lob insults and derisions.

30-06, 7mm, 300wm all are long range if you make it.
I am also a lefty and do have both 30-06 and 300wm in T3. If you are looking for a all around rifle short or long, i'd go with 300wm rather then 7mm.

300wm will give you much versitile range of reloads. if you do not reload, then there are way more factory loads for 300wm than 7mm.
7mm can range from 120-175 grains of bullets depends on which 7mm you are thinking of, 120 grains will push around 3300-3400 FPS max load and 175 grains at around 2600-2700FPS max.
300WM can range will range from 130-200 grains of bullet. 130 grains will push3400-3600FPS max and 200grains will push out 2700-2800FPS max. (both are defined in Barnes bullets)

If you want a all around caliber that you wnt to use short and long range, I would for sure go with 300wm. just way more choices in both reloading and factory rounds.

30-06 will bascially reload just like 300WM with around 200-300FPS less then 300WM. but than 30-06 will top in choices of factory ammo if you do not reload. (and cheap)

Look up Berger bullets, you will find that speed isn't everything. And if you think that, your stupid. Berger 168gr VLD 7mm have a way better BC than the .30cal of the same weight, and over all. Trust me I have 300wsm and my buddy shoots a 100fps (with his 7mm)slower than me but he can reach out further because of his BC. At 1500yards his drop is like 46moa and mine is 63moa, even tho my bullet out of the barrel in 100fps faster.

Do your home work and figure out what you want your gun to do. What ammo your going to shoot, factory or reload. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what gun go with if your going to just shoot animals with in 300yards. Either one of those guns will do it and same goes with the Cal you choose.
If your going to play around with some long range stuff go with the 7mm.

If I had to buy a hunting rife over again. T3 7mm rem mag FTW.
