I have an old 250-3000 savage, an old 30-30 and an old 38-55 winchester. These are all in their eighties so I would like a lighter load to shoot in them. I shoot a lot of cast but do shoot jacketed as well. I guess my reloading books are dated as they do not have the reduced loads I want and I have had little sucess in prowling the net. Anyone who has the type of loads mentioned or where to get them could E-mail me or post the material and I would be very grateful.

thanks in advance

Bringing your 250 Savage down to sub-sonic would be a terrible let down for it. Why do you want to go so low? You won't notice any difference in noise, or the "crack" from it, whether it is under, or over, the speed of sound.
In the First Edition of the Lyman Handbook of Cast Bullets, the slowest loading I see for the 250 Savage is 1220, with a 100 grain bullet, a bit over sonic. 8 grains of Unique does it. Most loadings for cast bullets in the 250 Savage, with bullets from 70 to 100 grains, are in the class from about 1600 to 2400 FPS.
The slowest loading I see for the 30-30 is 1340, 10 grains of Unique with a 165 bullet. Again, lots of loadings from about 1600 to 2300, with various powders and bullet weights.
The 38-55 varies from 1000 fps, with 145 grain bullet, to 1695 fps with a 265 grain bullet and 29 grains of HiVel.
Why don't you ask "38-55," on these threads, for a good light load with the 38-55 and maybe the 30-30, also.

Hello Pete....
For reduced loads get yourself a "Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd edtion" or older edtion if you can find one...

or here http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=17536

for reduced and subsonic loads go here

http://www.guns.connect.fi/gow/arcane1.html
http://guns.connect.fi/gow/arcane2.html

http://www.gmdr.com/lever/lowveldata.htm

You can use reduced .375 Win. loads for your 38-55 listed above...But I would cross reference the high end H4198 .375 Win. data with 38-55 data first...BUT the Lyman book has great 38-55 data...

The "Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook" mentioned is a must "GET" book for what you want to do....

The newer Lee reloading manual has 2 or 3 chapters specifically on cast bullets and reduced loads. Basically it was just a formula for reducing the standard loads and how the pressures react.

Don't know that I would specifically look for subsonic loads without a good reason. The 38-55 shoots very well with black powder too if you want to go that route....
