So a friend and I are looking for suggestions for shoots for us to go to. He's just starting to get into precision shooting and is really looking forward to the Tweedsmuir 1000 yard shoot and just learned about the NRL shoots coming up in BC and Alberta.

So what other shoots are similar to these? Nothing as "hardcore" as PRS, just something that might be fun and fits into what he wants to do.

Have you checked out matches held by your local Provincial Rifle Association (PRA)? Every province has a PRA. Sound like he is looking for something like a TR/F-Class event, much slower pace than PRS.

Is PRS hardcore? I'll admit that we shoot a bunch of steel and dirt in at a decently fast pace. But it's mostly standing around, watching other people shoot, and preparing to shoot.

KTSA has a bunch of matches for F class, PRS in rimfire and maybe centerfire.

Joe Rich has NRL22 and ORPS

Penticton might continue ORPS

Merritt will host BCPRL, CRPS matches

Cache Creek will host BCPRL matches

Private land option in Penticton for longer distance centerfire and rimfire matches... BCPRL?

There was a private land option in Cranbrook area but unsure if still going. BCPRL

Also the Whistler area range. BCPRL, CRPS, NRL22

Several locations on the Island.

BCPRL, CRPS, NRL22Canada, ORPS... many groups on Facebook.

About the only thing that will fit a large case is F class... KTSA will be your spot. They are shooting most Sundays for a fun league right now.

They will do 300m, 500m and on occasion 900m for these 1 day fun matches.

There will also be F class matches at Kamloops, spot further north, Homestead in Alberta, might be something around Edmonton this season?

Perhaps OP is looking for the same as me. Something not real action-oriented (I'm too old and lazy).....or too formal.
Rocky Mountain House has a couple, Groundhog Shoot and Benchrest shoot.....I plan to go back there this year, was a great time last year. Unfortunately the "King of the Hill" shoot at Rosebud won't be happening this year.....it was always a good shoot in my opinion.
I'd like to hear of any other "amateur" events in Sask, Alta, BC.....

Yup thats about it :d

We hold several steel matches out to 1,000 meyers every year as well as Fclass, but we are pretty far out of the way for most shooters as our range is in Fort McMurray.

Only 4.5 hour drive for me. Good excuse to get the camper on the road.

Cat, do you have any confirmed dates yet? For the Legion shoot or any others? Don't see them on the website yet.....

I asked and the fella in charge of the Legion Steel shoot was going to get back to me , but hasn't yet. I will ask him this weekend.
Our Fclass/TR shoots are in progress and I think the dates are finalized , I'll check them for you as well.

The Fort Mcmurray shoots are a lot of fun and no pressure. Lots of laughs and there’s always a nice young lady who brings coffee in the morning.

I think canadian historical arms society (Chas) in genesee does some 800metre f class shoots and I think there’s a spot around Edson that might be getting some matches on the go this year.
