Looking for Swedish 1896 Mauser (M96)

My advice:

- only buy one in excellent condition or at least with an excellent bore;
- pass on anything that has been modified, including the many that had or have diopter sights affixed; and
- consider what you want in a manufacturer, date of manufacture, stock wood, threaded muzzle, etc. now, not after purchase.

Thanks. Can't agree more.

Good bore is quite important to me. I don't want something just good for hanging on the wall unless it is black powder rifle that I am not planning to shot. For Sweden M96, CG might be the only producer, and for the stock, it will be nice to have walnut stock but, consider the age of the rifle, it might be hard to have all satisfying piece. So, I will make sure the bore and metal are good, for the stock will be more tolerant at least that is something I can refinish.

Thanks for the advise.

trade ex canada has item 29516 I find interesting The bolt is matching and it is a good to very good bore. You almost never see a rifle rated excellent.

Plus the husqvarnas are more recent.

you can call me if you want, been working hard on swedish mausers in the past years.

did purchase 5 or 6 at tradex and another 6 at P&S in Sherbrooke, including 2 model B lately.

But mine are not for sale, I shoot them.

So you alone hold 12 of it. That is why I can't find some more (LOL). Good to you, how do you feel the rifle? Any shoot out bore? Where did you get the ammo as I assume you consume a lot.

once you shoot a swedish mauser with a good rifling, the time comes very fast you do not want to shoot anything else.
It is a very fine cartridge to reload , this is what I do, It is too long to explain in writing all I feel about the sweed,,

Do you know anything about CG63, the variant of 1896 Mauser, the target version. Some of them are barreled with Denmark Schultz & Larsen heavy barrel.

Are they good, and how are they compare to M96?

The CG-63's were specially designed as a target rifle so as you can expect on average they are better shooters than a basic M96 rifle, but some FSR M96's shoot just as well as most CG-63's.

The Schultz & Larsen heavy barrels made accurate CG-63's, but a lot of shooters didn't like the extra weight and shot just as well with the also excellent Carl Gustav barrels.
