Hi folks,

I'm thinking about picking up a Colt Lightweight Commander in 9mm, but will have to sell 2 guns to pull it off :(

Wondering what folks who've had the chance to handle them think. Are they all that and a bag of chips? I sure like the sounds of some of the features.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the tip. There's one on the EE right now.

I've developed a thing for 9mm Commanders. I used to have this this SAM 1911 Commander Enhanced 9mm from Wolverine:

And now I have a Seraphim Armoury Crusader 9mm and am loving it:

But man is it heavy. The Lightweight's specs say it is a full quarter pound lighter than my Crusader. I also like the trigger guard undercut and the angled cocking serrations on the lightweight.

Why do you prefer the combat model?

I've also been looking at the new Ruger lightweight SR1911 commander in 9mm:

I like the sounds of it and it's ~$200 cheaper than the Colt, but the chevron cocking serrations look weird to me and I know stainless is "the new black", but I've never warmed to it. I prefer blueing.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and I'm interested to hear why you prefer the combat model.

I would get the steel frame colt combat commander. The colt lightweight won't take abuse that steel can

+1, unless you plan to carry daily.

Well, one can dream anyway. I already have a boat-anchor-heavy 9mm commander in my Crusader so that's part of my reasoning for trying something different.

Has anyone here actually held or shot a lightweight?

I have one in 38super LWC and its definately nicer to carry than my 9mm or 45 commanders in steel

shooting wise, a little less muzzle flip, that could be because of the 38super though, as it has more push back

Another vote for the Combat Commander. I shot a Series 80 a while ago, amazing accuracy and felt like I was shooting a .22.

I had a Scandium framed S&W 1911 Commander in .45. Kinda like a Lightweight Commander. Kicks a bit more but nothing nasty at all.
