I know I know... another "What should I buy" thread....

My wife is going to learn to shoot, and I have put a list together for her to pick from.

XD
M&P
Steyr MA1
SiG 2022

I'm leaning toward the SiG, because after 1911's, SiG's make me happy.

I made this list of available firearms in the "reasonable" price range, sent it to her and told her to research and pick one. I did this because she's stubborn. If I just pick one for her she'll always say she didn't get to pick and she's not happy.... This way she picks, she's happy, or at least won't admit to liking something else.

Anyone who has experience comparing any of the listed please chime in. It will be in 9mm as I can only carry so much ammo up here... and my 1911 fetish needs fed. heh.

M&P. The grips can be swapped to fit. Women often find most double stack auto difficult to hold. The M&P is designed with that in mind.

M+P good ergonomics ,decent sights, simple design, easy to clean, lighter than a 1911,reliable

Armco has a nice M&P with pink grips, breast cancer ribbon engraved of the slide. Help end breast cancer...buy a gun.

Trojan or Ranger

If you like Government models how about an STI Trojan or Ranger in 9mm. I have a STI Legacy in 9mm and it is the easiest gun to shoot well.

M&P is the best way to go for a woman. It has a very nice slim grip and accurate enough. I had one but sold it and got a Glock. Glock has a better grouping.

Exactly what I was thinking!

This might sound superficial... but from personnal experience, seems like women like 'nice' firearm (and plastic gun don't exactly quality)

How about you bring her down to the gun shop so that she can handle a few? After you can take her out to a nice restaurant and you can talk it over a good bottle of wine...

M&P. It can have a smaller grip, it's small and reliable. She may find it recoils a bit more than a steel frame gun, but it's cheap compared to others... and if she doesn't have the same passion for guns and doesn't end up shooting as much, you won't have spent as much.

100% what on what CanAm said, last time I was at the range a guy there with his girlfriend testing guns out and she fell in love with my M&P9
putting the small grip on and it fit her hands good.

Oh.... By the title of this thread, I thought your existing wife was anti gun, and now you were looking for a new one.

Or suggestions for countries with the best quality mail order brides... :D

And just why are you limiting the list to any specific suggestions? If she's going to shoot the darn thing then she should pick one that fits her hand and that she likes the trigger on the best. And if it turns out to be a single stack 1911 then bonus. But if it turns out to be a revolver with a specific size grip then suck it up and buy the .38Spl to shoot through it.

She wants to join you in your shooting. Don't put any restrictions on it!

Franky having handled all the guns on your list the M&P is the best of the lot thanks to the replacable grips. But it's still mondo fat for anyone with very small hands.

Let her try the ones on the list along with every other handgun you can find for her to try. And preferably somewhere that she can shoot them all along with a little coaching on her grip so she can get the best out of all of them given that they are new to her.

Or maybe start up an "SO's Handgun Shoot" with the club where the wives and girl friends can all come out and shoot any of the guns owned by the members from .22's to .45's or bigger if anyone has them. From single action cowboy types to the latest semi autos.

The point is to not force your desires onto her choice. Hell, she may very well find out that she gets her giggles from shooting .22. Complaining about packing extra ammo isn't valid since you'd need to pack in extra for her gun in any event. And if you both find that she enjoys shooting .22 most of all then your ammo weight will be down anyway.

M&P is really nice indeed. The HK P30L also has exchangeable front/backstraps for double the price :D

If you want to go the Sig route, maybe a P225 or P6 would do, if I remember correctly, they're both singlestack. You could also check out a P220 with a conversion kit.

I agree that she needs to handle a bunch of different firearms first to find what fits her best. My wife couldn't handle the recoil from a 9mm Baby Eagle, but then she shot my .40 cal Glock and loved it, because the grip fit her hand better. Then she just ended up claiming my Walther P22.

Erik.

Howdy, after doing a lot of reading/research, I bought the wife a Ruger SR9 and she just loves everything about it. Smaller hands, so she has to use both hands on the slide release but everything else is just fine. Later

Hey the " what should I buy" threads are the best as they give us all varying opinons about all kinds of handguns.

Have you thought of a CZ ?? My CZ 75 is great and it fits me really well as I am not big and do not have big mits. Price is usually good too.
