I've just picked up a Winchester 95 in .405 . Octagon barrel with Faure La Page Paris on barrel . I've done research and they are Gun Smith Manufacturer in Paris and that they bought certain American rifles modified them then resold them to the US market . My question is does that make this Winchester a special Winchester or were all .405's done that way ? Also according to the serial # given to me by the seller it is a 1909 model and less than 1000 were made that Year . I was going to restock and refurbish it . Wondering if that would be a mistake . I'm thinking I found something special but I'm not very well versed in Winchesters and was not able to find any info connecting the 95 , .405 to Le Page Paris . But found tons of info on Teddy Roosevelt . Even just point me in the right direction with my research . I really enjoy the history behind these old girls and if they only could tell their stories . Depending on its present condition you might have a valuable collector piece and for that reason I would not alter or change anything without a lot more research. I recall reading somewhere that the 95 in the 405 chambering was available 'only' with a round barrel so that might indicate that the rifle originally left the Winchester factory as a special order item.
Perhaps a letter to the Cody Museum might be a good start, also there are much more knowledgeable people on this site than me.

Mr. Lewis is presently getting ready to publish a book on the Model 1895 and is seeking information on rare Model 95s. Your gun would be one that he would be interested in. That's all good info . I've emailed Mr. Lewis . And red that article on Winchester collector forum and that's the same gun . But they don't really say much . Hoping Mr. Lewis can tell the story . I will report back here when he contacts me . I told him he came highly recommended ! Cheers and thanks
That article in the link is a little confusing the photo's are not of the gun they discus . Exact barrel length I'm not shure it hasn't arrived here yet . But the French on the barrel and the front swivel mount attached to the barrel I've seen . He had told me it was an octagon barrel but in the picture it looks round . And it is definitely the 1895 .
The photos your are seeing are in the signature line of the person doing the post. We will wait to see photos of the gun which was also asked for on the WACO site. Hard to tell what you have until you see it and can share with the rest of us. You also need to have a search of the serial # through the BBHC to confirm it's original configuration as long as it falls in the range of 1 to 59,999.
This one has the sling post as described in the link and the barrel inscription . Serial # is 60### . Made 1909 I have some photo's but I need to download to photobucket to transfer here . Shows that sling post and no sling post on butt stock as well a shotgun style butt plate . It's FOR SALE .

Interesting rifle. I have read that Faure Le Page in Europe is considered to be similar to Holland and Holland in England, gunmaker of royalty and the extremely wealthy. I wouldn't touch the rifle until I had more informmation on it.
