Im going to be converting one of my 30-06 Husqvarna 1640’s as I don’t need two of same caliber. I’m thinking of 6.5x55 I see on tradex they have a Zastava M98 barrel chambered ready for finish and polish for $169 or a barrelled action Husqvarna 1600 for about $500 (about, can’t remeber exact).

Would there be any issue using the Zastava barrel or should I just stay with pure husky and get the more expensive option. Or say screw it and get a custom barrel with a completely different option

Thanks for your input!

I have never pulled a 1600 barrel, but I am pretty sure it is a Mauser small ring barrel shank, so a normal Mauser 98 barrel won't fit without setting up on a lathe and cutting small ring threads. A M96 milsurp probably would work, but no idea about clocking. If you buy a commercial barrel, there are no threads, no sights, no sight holes, no scroll markings to line up. You get to buy the bore size and twist that you want, and chose the chamber that you will cut.
