im thinking of getting a 223 some time in the new year so i can go out varmint hunting with friends that dont have guns.
i just got a mod 11 savage in 22-250 but have not shot it yet.
id like to see what i like better and would like to use the 223 as an affordible to shoot/re-load gopher gun.
not looking to spend alot though. but would like something that shoots good.
any ideas?

also looking into a affordible high powered tasco scope for my 22-250...any reviews on there products?

I have had a few BSA scopes and found there lenses are dark but worked really well for cheap junk.I have had to many cheap Tasco and Bushnells and the gas leaks out the cross hairs brake or the sht erector system go,you have to beat them with a scew driver to get it to move Simmons are the same.Insted of buying another gun buy a good scope like a nykon buckmaster or leupold vx 1 or bushnell 3200, 4200 and keep it for life time.An old guy once told me to spend as much on your optics as you do on your gunand the older I get the more I see y

If you get an older made in Japan Tasco, they are a good scope. Newer ones are crap, as are the BSA scopes, Catseye, and a slew of other made in China brands. Lower end Bushnells are a crap shoot, I've had good and bad. The problem with the older Tascos is that if you do need repairs you're pretty much stuck with sending them to a guy in Florida, and they generally aren't worth the repairs, monetarily speaking. Older Weavers you can get repaired in Canada, and older Leupolds are good scopes that can be fixed here as well (generally, some weird #### going on right now with Leupold warranty). Euro scopes are nice, but again, tough to get repairs made unless you are buying high end stuff. FWIW - dan

The tasco 6-24x40 varmint are not to bad for the money, usually on sale at most gun shops. The vortex are a little more cash but seem reliable. For an affordable rifle a buddy has a sav. edge 223 he likes.
