looking into my first handgun,

Not a big fan, but these are really nice too.
M&P 45.

Buy a .45. This is a Glock 21SF with Picatinny Rail and Ambi Mag. Release. Cheap. And man, it goes pow! pow! pow! and is a blast to shoot. You'll have a lot more fun with it than a 9mm.

Yep.. lots of fun. If you want to learn to flinch and spend twice as much on your ammo while learning how to shoot.

The 21SF has a comparatively light recoil and with an Advantage Arms .22LR you can plink all day and learn cheap. Added up, this combo is cheaper still than a Sig P220 by around $300.

Funny how Slacker posted he wanted a 9mm. Last time I checked .45 ACP isn't 9x19mm.

Cheap is a bad word, it gives the idea that the product is of inferior quality. When you label a glock as "cheap" you are not doing it any favors.

Sigs on the other hand are not cheap. I paid $700 for a used 9mm sig.

I think people are offering what they think is cool far more than what is best. They do not often coincide... Aside from as Navy said, he asked about 9mm. So the people offering .45 should clam up. ;)
