Need some help. I have finally done my homework and I am looking to build a sniper/hunting rifle and would like it to look like the M40A1 USMC sniper rifle. I need to know who is the best in the business, I live in Red Deer so anyone in alberta? If you recommend anyone outside of alberta let me know. The only difference is I would like it in 7WSM and at a reasonable price.

M40A1 is not a M40A1 if chamber in anything other than 7.62x51mm. It is a Remington 700 wearing a McMilly A1 stock.

Stop calling it a sniper rifle too. Unless of course you are a trained sniper, then you may.

In all seriousness, it would be a great rifle and 7WSM is a great cal, but expensive to shoot. Anyone like ATRS could build one.

ATRS had one on their shelf recently, it is still on the website under 'custom' rifles. However, like Peanut said, a Rem 700 action in a Mcmillan is essentially what an M40 is. ATRS can build whatever you want or can afford.

ouch- I'd think of a different stock if chambering a 7wsm. I really can't like the HTG in any chambering, but it would be even worse in something w/ substantial recoil. Just my 0.02. I can definatly get behind a utilitarian 7wsm build- I'd just stock it differently.

The Sniper Rifle thing is getting pretty old now. The name comes from the job, and I hope you don't kill people for money (although military jobs are awesome and well worth it). I am sure ATRS would have no problem making you one (as long as you don't use the term sniper rifle and ask really nicely). And I am not sure the 7mm Short Mag would be a great choice. I have a 7mm Rem Mag and it kills the shoulder NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO!

Sniper , Chef , Biker , Extreme and Common Sense are five of the most over used ( least understood ) terms used in existence today

Casey at Tactical Ordnance w ww.tacord.com. He builds them for many of the police forces across the country, and is a former sniper.

Man, I hate it when gunsmiths, or people in the firearms trade as a whole, tell me they are/were a sniper. While it would be interesting to know over beers, or during a run or something, it has no impact on the firearms transaction. Buy the gun not the story. It especially looks bad when the person clearly isn't/wasn't.

I don't know anything at all about Casey BTW. I have just heard the story from many gunshow types. The replica M40A*s that have been posted on here from him do look like attention to detail was paid though.

Since my post was directed at the OP, your comment "I don't know anything at all about Casey", is about the only thing you said that I know to be 100% accurate.

i dislike how everyone jumps on the "dont call it a sniper rifle" bandwagon.. he said he wants to build it to look like an M40A1 USMC sniper rifle .. because thats what the M40A1 is

Really.
Don't care, stop calling them sniper rifles. The last thing we need is to go around referring to our guns like they are weapons used by some para-military group. These are sporting and competition rifles and are never used for any military action.

A little late for that. Your deer rifle is now a 'high powered baby murdering sniper rifle". Call it what you want, precision rifle, sniper rifle, LR rifle, hell, call it Bob if it makes you happy. Way too much PC crap going on around here.

As to the OP's question, ATRS in Calgary can build you whatever you like, an do it well. - dan
